Looks like they're using the big guns for Noise, Vibration and Harshness testing.

Toyota Motor Corporation enters a cooperation project with Brüel & Kjær

Toyota Motor Corporation has selected the Brüel & Kjær PULSE™ platform as a basis for a new Noise and Vibration Analysis System for vehicle test-track use.

The system will be developed with close cooperation between Toyota's R&D headquarters in Toyota City, Aichi, Japan, and Brüel & Kjær during the latter half of 2002.

The reasons for Toyota's decision include:

PULSE is a constantly evolving, scalable NVH platform, with a wide variety of software applications and high performance hardware.
PULSE is a well-proven platform with a worldwide installed base of more than 3000 systems.
Brüel & Kjær's strong presence in Japan through exclusive distributor Matsu****a Inter-Techno Co., Ltd.
In partnership with Toyota, Brüel & Kjær is dedicated to further development of the PULSE platform, so as to help Toyota continuously increase productivity in vehicle development.

Good to see that they're using the good stuff. Now if we could only get some of the other car manufacturers to stop using the Fisher-Price stuff and the My First Sony, we'd be doing really well....

Ohhh you'd be surprised at what equipment is already used during OEM R&D, the problem comes back to the stupid bean counters...they are the evil ones!!!!

There are some amazing things always going on at the prototype and R&D level at these car companies, they just don't publicize it unless there is some marketing reason for it.
