As a cheaper option I can recommend buying a pair of knitting needles. Insert approximately two inches into each ear to burst each eardrum in turn. Then go out and buy two deafaids. And enjoy!

Headroom is fine, but 6,000 watts in a car is bloody stupid.

naaa, i want more power, lol. use two of those amps for the 4 interor speakers. then get like 2 or 3 for subs. and just crank it up. lol all i know is i use crown amps for DJing and their power rating are pretty strong, but i dunno how good they are in car audio; who cares though, people will buy it for the hell of it. prob moslty for spl contests etc.

I read an article on this amp a few months ago, and it is a beast. I dont remember many of the specs, but I do remember it was about 3 feet long and about 2 feet wide. Crown is known for making big, quality amps, but I think this is their first car audio amplifier. I cant wait to see one in person .

Default Crown Amps

The band I used to "roadie" for used Crown amps for their stage set up...serious stuff. I didn't know they were making a run at the car audio market.

If we take a speaker rated for 89dB at 1w/1m...

1 watt = 89db
2 watts = 92db
4 watts = 95 db
8 watts = 98 db
16 watts = 101 db
32 watts = 104 db
64 watts = 107 db
128 watts = 110 db
256 watts = 113 db
512 watts = 116 db
1024 watts = 119 db
2048 watts = 122 db
4096 watts = 125 db
8192 watts = 128 db

The speaker would have pretty much been dead at above 1024 watts rms. Ear protection anyone?

Just a comment to Percy's table, please remember that regular exposure to 95 dB SPL causes permanent hearing damage. It is thought that up to one third of rock stars suffer from permanent hearing damage. Did you read about how John Entwistle died with both hearing aids on his bedside table?

Both Crown and JBL make some of the finest products in the sound reinforcement market. 6,000 watts of Crown amplification driving JBL speaker systems are enough to fill a medium size venue, as I'm sure you will confirm.

Packing all that power into a car environment is irresponsible, in my opinion. Technically, however, it's quite an achievement.

Stevie,

Some factories around here will produce an excess of 120 dBA for the 8 hour work period. Earplugs rated at 30 dBA of attenuation are needed to comply with OSHA. OSHA standards, for an 8 hour period will have 94 dBA as a MAXIMUM.

Sarah Maclachlan is one of the few artists who uses earplugs on stage. You can see her wearing them in her concert "Mirrorball". Smart woman.

All kidding aside, that is probably one awesome amp if you don't crank it until your ears bleed. Crown has the best PA amps on the market and has had for many years, they really know how to make their amps bulletproof at high power for long periods of time, and yet sound really good. If you want your amps not to die in the middle of your gig, you use Crown. I just wonder how long it's going to take before Harman turns Crown into more run-of-the-mill pablum like they did to Infinity...
Great amp if you can fit it in your trunk, you can always buy the Crown Nuclear Automotive Power Plant as an option (cooling tower on roof), not released yet though, the uranium screws up EZPass...

That's when you have to go with water cooling. 3 eyed fish anyone? Glowing sushi?

You will go deaf from a 1000 hz tone playing at 150 db wayyyy faster than a 50hz tone playing at 150 db.
