Default Problem with gs300 aftermarket radio

Do any 2nd gs300 owner have the problem where when you turn up your volume too loud, it shuts off?

Are you running it through the factory amp? Are your speakers factory or aftermarket?

It's possible that your new HU is sending too high/big of a low level signal. That could cause the amp to shut down/go into protection when it recieves to high of an RCA level signal. I'm assuming you are using a line level converter? If it has adjustable gain levels on it, try lowering the levels a bit and see if that helps.

Im not running a line level converter. I just bought a harness and plugged it from the aftermarket headunit to the radio harness coming out the amp.

Did you use RCA's or speaker wire? Does your amp even allow high level input (speaker level input)?

I used RCAs to run my aftermarket amp and sub to my radio. Is that what you meant?

Yeah, thats what I meant. Since you are using RCA (low level) inputs that more or less eliminates the possibility of an impedance issue on your speaker outputs.

Next, does the radio itself turn off or is the amp turning off or going into protection mode? What I'm saying is the radio powering down? If the radio is powering down then I would ask how is it wired in the dash? To the factory harness?

I don't think the sub amp has anything to do with it unless only the sub amp is shutting off when the volume goes past 20. You should be bypassing the factory amp when using an aftermarket deck but it sounds like you are doing that already since you mentioned using a harness, which only plugs into the output side of the factory amp. Since you mentioned the Alpine 9833, I think your positive wire on the deck (yellow) needs to be hooked up straight from the battery. I've never had a problem wiring my old 9835 to the positive behind the radio but Alpine does recommend wiring it straight to the battery (Alpine claims the internal amp to be high powered) so try that and report back.

When you see a diagram that shows the yellow (12v constant) wired directly to the battery it doesn't mean that you have to go to the actual battery. That is just the diagram showing that the wire in question needs to be connected to a 12v constant source.

Yes, I know, but if you can find the installation manual for the 9811-9855 decks that Alpine made, it says specifically to wire that yellow to the battery because they claim their internal amps are made to draw more current which, makes sense if the OP's deck keeps resetting back down to 0 when it shuts off. I'm very familiar with Alpine's line of decks. I've had maybe 5 of the 9835's so far. The only thing is, I can't say for sure if this is what's causing the OP's deck to act the way it is because everytime I had one hooked up, it was always ran with external amplifiers.

i had a similar issue w the same radio in my 98 gs300..

solution.. the 9833 has a true power amp built in the radio (that u can turn off if ur using the rca's) but what u need to do is wire the radio just like u do a power amp an connect the memory (yellow) wire + directly to the battery with a 25 amp fuse.. also bcuz the 9833 has an awesome crossover an eq set up.. u should bypass the oem amp all together (since the dash will be apart anyway).. it will sound cleaner an clearer than u ever imagined..
