Default Newbie to CL Forum, '01 GS430 Stereo Issues

Hey All,

Newb here. I have an '01 GS430 I absolutely love but, lately have had stereo issues. It started with the sound going away, then progressed to a popping sound when I turn the car on. All the other functions with the nav center work. Its hasn"t worked for a good week now.

Any suggestions? I've heard the ML stereo systems in these cars aren't the best.

Thanks. And I look forward to being on the forum

Chuck

thats not exactly true john.... the ML amp was known to be defective on the gs430 and years ago they had a TSB to replace them but sadly alot of owners didnt do it (im assuming they never saw the TSB) but regardless whats done is done. you can either buy a replacement ML amp or remove the amp....you would also need to remove the headunit, install a non nav climate control any 98-2005 will work (just make sure the pixels are good) and a amp/radio of your choice OP to power everything.

welcome to the forums please get yourself acquainted with the search button though, i have the same year gs430 and the car is almost 11 years old, almost nothing that can/will happen to our car hasnt been covered on the boards someplace

I have the Nav. Thanks anyway. From what I've read, it seem like the problem is the amp in the trunk. All the other functions work on my control unit, Nav, climate, trip info, CD/radio...just no sound.

Thanks for the heads up. Can' the amp just be replaced? I don't need a new control head. Everything works, no sound.
