Default Looking for a DIY subwoofer install 01 gs430

I was searching and came up negative. does anyone know of a DIY that shows how to install a system in the trunk? I want to use my stock navi HU ( Mark Levingston) and have a separate amp that only powers the sub. I am not very good with electronic but i can follow directions.

Are you talking about using an amp to power the stock sub or installing a whole new sub/amp setup?

I wanted to install a whole new setup. I would like to keep the stock amp to power all component speaker except the sub.I will replace the sub and power the new sub with a mono amp. So in a while i would like 2 amp, one for the speakers and one for the sub.

If you just want the sub you can do what i did.

Buy LOC (line out converter), amp, sub, cables.

When you take out your stock subwoofer, the wires that are connected to it you connect the LOC to those two wires. Then hook up RCA cables to the LOC and the amp and there you go.

interesting concept. So the two speaker wire from the original subs goes into the LOC and the LOC connects to the amp. Is that similar to high to low converter?

Not sure I'd go through all that unless you have separate control over the subwoofer in the head unit. If not, then I'd just run the sub wires into the high level input on the new amp. Better I would think than converting the signal to low level then amplifying it again.

^ my stock navi does not have a separate sub woofer setting. when you say run the sub wires into the high level input of the amp, how will the amp pick up the audio. are you saying i still need the LOC or high to low converter?

No. The wires that connect up to the subwoofer would input that signal into your amp. That's what a high level input is for, situations where you don't have low level rca output.

No. The wires that connect up to the subwoofer would input that signal into your amp. That's what a high level input is for, situations where you don't have low level rca output. Big question is where do you intend to install the amplifier??

I installed the amp in the trunk so i was able to the splice the stock sub wires to the amp. I tried your suggestion yesterday and it sounds a bit distorted. I dont see any setting were i can adress the problem. Maybe a high to low converter or LOC will help with the distroted sound.

It shouldn't be distorted. What kind of amp do you have?

I have an older model alpine 650mrp amp. I adjust the gain and it sounds so much better. My stereo does cut in and out when the music starts to hit hard. I need to check my ground i think.

Hmm, LOC is same thing as high low converter. It just basically converts your oem speaker wires into RCA so that your amp can receive the signal.

I did it the LOC way and I dont have any distortion with my set up, or does it cut in and out. If it works for you then all good.
