For a good radar you will spend $250-450 in my experience.
Here are some decent comparisions:

Escort (my choice for the last 10 years) or Valentine. These usually end up first/second in any objective radar comparison. Avoid Cobra and any of the sub $200 detectors.
Definitely check out radartest.com as dlsoul87 suggested, lots of good info there.

lol.. i bet u have an I(gotonetoo)phone also...
valentine is last gen tech.. no gps.. no laser protection option..it just detects laser which means PULL OVER u just got a ticket......it has rear radar built in(ok a plus but kinda gimmicky) mine detect rear signals too with only a front detector. (so it goes off i slow down regardless of front or rear.). valentine tells u how many radars are locked on...have u EVER been hit by more than one police radar at a time???. who cares if 7-11's doors are included in the radar count..
hears a small heads up to all radar owners.. Laser is the new weapon of choice for Law Enforcement.. bcuz radar can be disputed in court due to interference an calibration issues.. laser.. once locked on is certain to cost u money.. so the larger police depts have already switched to laser.. the smaller depts are switching to laser as funds become avail... also laser gives u no heads up warning until ur particular car is hit...so there is no early warning.. invest in a laser defuser (as long as its legal in your area) it jams laser so LEO's cant lock on.... in short cant lock on..CANT write a ticket!!!
the three most reliable laser jammers are made by.. Blinder , Escort/Passport & K40
no one makes a dash mount defuser (rocky mountain.. etc) because NOTHING can be mounted in front of a defuser.. being as it transmits infrared light even a clear windshield will negatively effect the emitter array

and couldnt agree more about the jammers. Being from Ohio I tend to support Escort, and have been to their HQ and they run a pretty good operation with great customer service from when I got my first one back in like '99.

Valentine 1 or Bel 65. Both have their trade offs. Its whatever the customer qualifies for. I chose v1 because i speed more on highways then local so i need better detection. I have some relative in other parts of the county that uses alot of speed cams at traffic intersections so they use Bel 65.
