We have some available, but they are in the $500-up range.

Email or PM if you are interested...

I'd get a newer HO output one myself...

But, if you can't afford it, usually for cheaper you can talk to an auto electrical place, or an RV shop about rewinding your alternator (assuming there's room in the case for more windings) for cheap (usually about $100 + any installation, removal, etc).

It won't get you as much as a real HO alt, but it will bump up your output.

I have 160 amp one in my car. The right alternator shop can upgrade it and it would cost you around $300.

Could you give me prices on your rewound ones Todd?
Retro- how did you fit 160 amp windings in there? My alternator shop can only fit 120 amps of windings. Anybody else know of a place for ho alternaters (nippon denso)?

Stock alternators should be good for 120+ amps. That's according to the schematics from Lexus/toyota.

We don't have any rewound ones, these are modified GM small case alternators, with external voltage regulators. They will put out a genuine 160A, and are quite reliable.

Rewound alternators are questionable, the real problem is heat, and a rewound will generate more heat, which affects the other electronics inside. This is why true high performance alternators have external regulators...

So if this is true, I should be able to run a 120 amps alternator up to 140-160 amps with no problem?

I did mine in Irvine at DC Electric. The guy used to compete IASCA and now makes high output alternators for stretch limos. My one has smaller pulley (spins faster) but it does give out 160 on the machine. Besides the guy has a great reputation in his field. Just find a good place.
