so I inherited my wifes sc400 and its in **** condition....anyway she said the radio hasnt worked in forever and i decided to hit the amp with a hammer for a bit and whatyaknow it turns the radio on now but the speakers sound like either the speakers are all blown or they arent getting enough power.

does anyone know if I could just buy speakers or just buy an amp or would it be both the speakers and the amp? anyone have the same situation? thanks

The amplifier for the Nak sound system are notorious for going out. Contact Aliga or RGW by PM and see if they have it. I would just install new speakers, head unit and amplifier, and call it the day.

Opening up the amplifier and carefully cleaning out any corrosion inside and on the connectors and connector ports might work. Your hammer technique did at least indicate that the problem could be faulty connections between components. Those of us who are kind of old remember when regular cleaning of corrosion from the mechanism behind mechanical TV tuner ***** was a regularly required maintenance activity - same principle may be involved here.

The nakamichi sound system has excellent sound quality, however every component will fail and will need replacement. At this point, Ive replaced all 4 mid range speakers, (the tweeters hold up fine) and I believe the amplifier as well.

If you can get a really good aftermarket setup, by all means. At this point the cars are older, and all the audio components are failing, one by one.
