Now, I haven't really had a chance to try this technology, but it sounds really cool. Has anyone tried this?
This is a suggestion to Lexus that they offer a factory Bluetooth cellphone car kit option in the near future. A Bluetooth car kit works like a regular phone car kit where you cellphone sits in a cradle so you can handle phone calls handsfree in the car. The big difference with a Bluetooth car kit is that the phone is connected to the car kit wirelessly with Bluetooth. No cradle, no cables cluttering up the car interior. It's such an elegant solution, it just screams Lexus.
The Bluetooth connection provides many advantages. You don't have to put the phone in a cradle to use the car kit. In fact you can leave the phone in your pocket, purse or briefcase. You won't have to fumble around in the car for your phone if it goes off unexpectedly while driving. You won't forget your phone in the car anymore (if at least it's in your pocket). You won't be stuck with a particular Lexus phone. Remember the old Lexus car kit? You were forced to use whatever technology and carrier Lexus picked for the cellphone. With a Bluetooth car kit, you can update your phone by just changing phones. All that's required is that the phone is Bluetooth capable.
If Lexus offered this as a factory option, then the integration with the rest of the car would be more seamless. There might be steering wheel mounted controls for a phone in addition to built-in stereo muting during a call. Likewise, the microphone would be better integrated in the interior.
]If you want this feature right now, there are a couple of aftermarket Bluetooth car kits available. The following one sounds most capable since it isn't made by a major cellphone manufacturer for their specific phones. It seems to have more features than the other kits also.
