For starters theres the Luxman (which you can't get here) amplifier, the McIntosh MX5000 HDCD capable cd head unit and a few others such as the Denon, but that's recently being imported here. More than likely you'll have to find someone overseas to get them for you.
IMO, they're VERY hardcore in SQ over there in Japan. For testing amps or speakers, they basically have an "ideal room" setup so they don't have to use processors like the car audio enviroment. Keeps things MUCH simpler. Amps are tested on high current, low ripple power supplies (not alternators - which have fairly high ripple) and using home audio cables and interconnects. For speakers, they just drop them into a cabinet that's within the speakers needed specs and listen to them from there. It's very much like a high end "stereophile" setup along with a pair of guys with very good ears.
Know anyone overseas?

If you thought car audio gear was bad on turnover, you should see cellphones. What we consider as "new" would be their 3 year old junk that nobody wants! Geez!
