Default Aftermarket Stereo in a GS

Does anyone know if there is any available dash kit to fit a aftermarket stereo in a 98 and up GS. Ive seen GS's with aftermarket stereos in them, but the dash kit looks as if it was custom made. Just wondering if anybody out theres knows of somone who makes a kit or wiring harness specifically for the GS.

Thanks for any help. (1st post, kinda new to the whole Lexus thing)

Kimball,

You might want to try crutchfield. They have a plethora of dash kits.

Dr K.

Welcome to ClubLexus! I'm moving your post to the Lexus Electronics forum which is the place for car stereo-related questions.

HOWEVER - I've asked and researched the exact same question you have (and it's been asked many times here) both online and at shops and there is NO pre-made faceplate that works for the GS, everyone has done something custom.

Try the search feature tab at the top and you'll find some of the creative faceplate solutions that others have come up with. I'll do a quick search and post some for you.

Dr K - Some links to prior posts that might help. Anyone reading this that has stumbled across a manufacturer for the 2nd gen GS, please post!

Faceplates, unfortunately, do NOT exist over here from any manufacturer. That includes Metra, Scosche, etc. They feel that there's not enough of a "market" for them. They'll make a plate for the typical Pontiac Firebird or Dodge Neon (lots of those running around) but the GS is in a class by itself.

For anyone knowing about the Aristo (japanese version of the GS, 2nd gen), there IS an option. The Aristo uses an Eclipse head unit for it's base model, not Pioneer. The trim area is PERFECT for any aftermarket add ons. I've seen double din installations - they look factory since the trim area IS from the factory!

As for contacts in Japan, I don't know of any. But it's an official Toyota part, it's just getting one over here in the U.S.

What I did was buy the Metra 99-9999. Universal iso stack/ double din head unit installation kit and trim it with Percy dimensions from his book.

It's not that hard to have a custom piece done to fit the dash - mine includes the p9 head unit and a zapco remote amplifier monitoring system. reason why the head unit is not flushed in is b/c it is a motorized and removeable faceplate. I will be color matching it to the dash in the near future. Also in pic you can see the kick panel w/o the grill on it
