Default New CD changer

Wut up gents? Is is plausible to change the CD-changer? I have a 93 SC300 and the CD-changer sucks. I guess anti-skip technology wasn't perfected yet, and it won't read most CD-R's.

I'd like to change the changer to a modern one which has anti-skip and can read CD-R's and MP3's.

Can this be done without a major overhaul? The old CD-changer is bolted down. How can this be removed without damaging?

Thanx....

I, too, would like to know if the 12 disc CD changer alone can be changed out without changing out wiring, amp, etc. I have a 96 with 12 disc but no nakamichi, just the standard lexus system.

As far as i know, aftermarket changers cannot be wired to the stock radio. if anyone has any other info, i would certainly be interested as well.

Unfortunately, your CD changer is probably ready to die. I had mine refurbished (do a search and you'll find the company) and it almost never skips and plays CD-Rs fine.

As far as I know, there are no aftermarket solutions to wiring a CD changer and still use the controls. You could always hook it up the FM way... but I don't think it sounds as good with using an OEM connection.

Removing the CD changer is easy. Just take off the carpeting on the back and cd-side and you'll see ~4 10mm bolts.

The dealerships sells the refurbished 12 disc changer for $190.00 with a 12 month warranty... I finally had to buy one... As Hellaboy stated it plays CD-R with any problem and the Nak changer never skipped disc anyway in my 400..

Ikon, how much do the Lexus dealerships charge for installation of the reburbished unit? That sounds like a good option. I was otherwise considering tearing out the entire stereo console, and puttting in a new aftermarket one. But that can add up ...

Herrin Gear Lexus on Jackson, MS. That price with a used dealership discount or a mechanics discount. The regular price is $235, which is a good price IMO. I'm not sure on labor I installed myself(very easy)...

So if your CD changer doesn't play CDRs or is selective about which CDRs to play, then it's about to die? My CD changer has no problem switching discs, loading/unloading, and playing CDs, but it is really selective about which CDRs it wants to play. I've tried Imation and Fuji, and it doesn't like either of them. Both of these were green dye. Then I tried another Fuji, except these had blue dye, and it plays fine!

Does this mean that I'll be needing a new CD changer in the future? Or is this typical of early Lexus 12 disc CD changers?

Thanks,
-Brian.
