DIY OEM Remote Start Install
Searched all over, can't find what I need. So:
Do you need special software to install (register) an OEM Lexus remote start in a 2010 RX450h? The instructions seems to imply you do. If so, is there an aftermarket software option for getting it up and running?

how did the oem starter install go? how much was the part?.. the only reason i ask is we do add-on remtote starters and i'm tryin to give the best deal possible to CL members (currently $199-250 installed).. but the good thing about ours is we can link your smart phone to it also giving you unlimited range...

Happy customer...
Lexus starter was $184 shipped. Once you have Techstream up and running (do this before starting, took a little tinkering with drivers) the install is very strait forward. Removing the necessary dash panels takes the most time. The starter just plugs in. No cutting/splicing wires.
I wanted to use the Lexus fob to remote start and I didn't want to get into an aftermarket starter on a hybrid. My only concern going in was the range issue a lot of people seem to have with the OEM starter. We've had zero issues with the 50' from inside the house to the vehicle on the the street.
To sum up: cheap, easy, stock. Happy customer.

glad to hear..but just an fyi (granted there is some splicing no wires are cut so no voided warranty)with the aftermarket system you still use the oem fob...with its limited range...but most of my customers opt to add the smart start to link it to there smartphones.. as 50' is not far enough (as one lady told me..at 50' i might as well start it from the drivers seat)
so now we do more installs for the dealer than they do of the oem unit....
but thanks for the added info.. still good to know that we offer a service at what seems to be a very affordable price..
