So I'm redoing my sub/amp pieces in the GS and wanting to get rid of the box itself, and mount a descent sub on the rear deck. I currently have an enclosed 10W6 with a 500/1 amp and was looking into the JL Audio marine subwoofer line...they are free-air (infinite baffle), so it does fit the bill for a rear mounted woofer with no enclosure.

Anyone else ever used the marine-subwoofer line (any brand review, even though I'm JL specific)?

WetSounds also has a 10inch free air sub that works really well. I have one in my boat, and it hits pretty good.

This may be a dumb question, but can this sub be used with a ML amp or would an aftermarket amp with digital crossover be needed

u probably need a more powerful amp.

Agreed. Those free air subs need good power to sound and function correctly. Running the JL or wetsounds off the ml amp will disappoint.
