Default Need advice/confirmation for my audio setup

Hi. I don't normally post in this section but I need your help. I have a 2000 GS400 with the regular Pioneer stock HU and stock speakers. I removed the stock 8" sub in the back as I previously had (2) 12" subs for bass that have since been removed. As of right now the car has zero bass and these original speakers are starting to sound distorted/crackling.

So, I am first looking to buy 5.25" Alpine Type R components for the fronts (I'll buy the adapters) and 6.5" Alpine Type R coaxles for the rear (will get adapters here too). I did a lot of research; are these good speakers? I also have a Kenwood 1000w amp that is currently hooked up to nothing that I would like to power the above door speakers. Will this sound good like this or will I have to put an 8" or 10" sub in the rear deck as well? My last item will be to replace my stock HU with a nice nav/DVD double DIN HU but I don't think Alpine is the place to be here. Lastly, can I use my stock wires for the door speakers or should/would I need to upgrade to a larger gauge? If so, what size?

I am NOT looking for a competition setup here; just a nice sounding, upgraded stereo system. I appreciate all comments and feedback in advance.

Thanks guys!

Damn. 50 views and no comments or opinions. Did I say something wrong?

1000w amp is way too much power for mids... i'd change the headunit that will make sense to get better sound for mids....plus that 1000w is probably a sub amp an cant be used for mids anyway...

I know what you're saying and plan on changing the headunit anyway. My amp is a 4 channel that is bridgeable; can't I just turn down the gain on the amp? Also, I plan on getting components which from what I read need to be amplified where a headunit alone won't do the job.

Yes replace the stock speaker wires. 14 or 16 AWG should be fine.
