The 9000 brain controls all of that. The screen works just like a P7300 screen would. It's an A/V multicommand center

so let me get this straight. the 9000 is EVERYTHING i need, excluding the screen.?? so this just isn't your ordinary brain is it?? wow i was planning to get the PIONEER AVH-P7490DVD that comes with the AVM-P9000R. in this case, the 7490 was pretty much nothing more than a LCD screen and dvd built together?? wow this is great news to me. if it is. i'm just going to buy the 9000 and buy a seprate 8 inch screen and seperate DVD player. it would save me at least 500 to go this route. SWEET.

btw. would i have to buy a pioneer dvd player to be able to use the optical in/out??

Yup, the 9000 brain, or even the 8000 brain for that matter controls the screen. You just need to get the "CD30RGB" cable, which is around $30 or so to make them work together, as the cable that comes with the 9000 brain will not work, but that's it, here's updated pics of it working:

The screen....it's cross laced to send the correct signals....the screen works by itself for just video, but when you use this cd30rgb cable with the 9000 brain, it works just like it was a flip out
