Default Charge/Discharge Capacitor

How do you discharge and recharge the capacitors. Should the capactior be charged or discahrged when you install it? How do you check to see if it is cahrged or discharged?

See following...

Should the capactior be charged or discahrged when you install it?

Charged, unless you want to possibly arc...

How do you check to see if it is cahrged or discharged?

If charged, there will be voltage across the terminals, hook up a light if you want to see (without VM). Just make sure you charge it again...

Charge it by using a resistor in series (I think 470ohm?), or even better, use a 12V light in series (on the positive...) when the light goes out, you are fully charged and ready for install.

To discharge, short the terminals with a resistor, but make sure you don't use your hands to hold the resistor (it will get HOT), use a close pin, or some needle nose.

What size is this cap? Absolutely do NOT hook it up backwards...

I want to charge it with the light because I don't have any resistors, how exactly do I charge it with that method, I am kinda unclear.

Since I dont have a resistor is there another way to discharge a capacitor?

Thanks!
