I hear MANY differing opinions between V1 and 8500... the V1 is said to be better by the people that use them, yet not the magazines.
Most magazines I've read that test the radar detectors select the V1. Car & Driver does an exhaustive test every couple of years (see pics below). The 8500 is a good unit and significantly less expensive, but my V1 has saved me more than any radar detector I've ever owned (and I've had most all of them) so I've stuck with it. I also have a built-in K40 in my GS in addition to the V1, it stays turned off. The V1 is much better than the K40 through my direct comparison. I may need to upgrade the receivers on the K40, but I don't think it'll make that much difference.

Cost is 399.00 through Valentine themselves........www.valentine1.com

One of the BEST features of the V1 that rarely gets any write up is the bogey counter. You can be driving down the road and come across the first trap, if there is another trap a 1/2 mile down the V1 will pick up both signals by way of the digital counter. Any other detector will just continue to alarm and will give you the impression that you were still picking up the first signal and bam you just got a ticket.

V1 - don't leave home without it !!
