Have you looked into the blue top? Although it is for marine use, specs seems similar. I think an SC member actually used it in his car. Can't remember who though.

the marine battery is different, but not that different - if anything, the marine deep cycle battery is a little tougher than a standard automotive battery, and will provide plenty of cranking amps in all but the coldest climates...and, I don't think painting the battery top will work, that plastic is so shiny the paint wouldn't stick very well I think...it would scratch easily which would end up looking tacky.

I have an Orange Top, reverse terminals, in my SC - and boy did it stand out in an all black engine bay. So I disguised it...

Here's the Tsunami power distribution block covering my yellow top. You wouldn't have to do as much to cover up the visible yellow parts of the battery. Please note that I had to modify the underside of the hood in order to have enough clearance. Yellow top is the only way to go if you're going to find yourself killing the battery numerous times from playing your system while parked. The LED voltage indicator on the top will also give you some warning when you are low on juice.

bluelex, I was going to use black pebble finish abs plastic sheet - it's easy to cut with tinsnips and holesaws - but it's only avallable at plastics supply houses, and being the impatient type and wanting to get it done on the weekend, I went to Walmart and found a 3-ring binder in the school suppies section with a solid black plastic sheet cover, and vwah-lah!

It was a little thin, though, hence the kinda wrinkled look, but for 39c the price was right! I still plan to get a piece of abs plastic (it will cost all of $3) and re-do it at some point.
