Question question about crossovers and mc amps

i brought my mc amp to the installer and they said that once they plugged the 2nd rca input in my sub channel began to play at full range. SO i figure it was somethign with the crossover or the 2nd input. i sent it back to mc and they told me that if u r using the 5-6 output then i cant use the crossover on the amp and i should use the one on the HU and i will be able to use the sub woofer control on the HU. (the reason i brought the amp in was because my sub woofer control wasnt working at all)

so anyways. anyone ever hear of this? and r the crossovers on HU's bad? will the sound be any different? thanks a lot !!!

The MC440M or the MC440 (non meters) has the following configuration options...

All 6 channels. This one is easy. Each input channel results in an output channel with the same number.
5 channel. Channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 are seperate. 5 and 6 are bridged. Inputs 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the same as in 6 channel mode. Only difference is that input 5 will amplify for both 5 and 6 outputs since they're bridged.

4 channel mode. This one is fun. Input 1 is for one channel. Input 3 is for one channel. Input 5 is for one channel and input 6 is for one channel.

I'll have to find my manual somewhere...McIntosh might have it online at http://www.mcintoshlabs.com

Using the HU's sub output (and if it has a built in xover) will cause the signal that's routed to the amp to work. If you're putting in a processed signal (xover) then the amp is just bumping up the signal. The signal is still being crossed over, just louder, which is what the amp is supposed to do anyways.

Who did you talk to over at Mc?

mc440M, i spoke to mr kim in service, i could not really understand them very due to the heavy accent. also i have NO idea how systems works or how amps work so it was one of those nod and agree things (but over the phone)

this is exactly what my installer said .. i had him write it down ! hehe. amplifier sends full range signal through sub channel when an rca is plugged into input 2 on the amplifier.

here is some specs on my HU.. i just took the whole section because i have no idea which part will help if any .

Set your low pass xover frequency to 80hz on the HU. That should do the trick. If it's too loud or soft, you can set the level adjustments later.

Who makes the HU? (and which model!)

Just of my curiosity,
which dealer did you get your mc from? and if you don't mind I ask, how much did you pay for it?

I owned MC446 and having a hard time to find secondary mc to go with it in town. Thanks for your help

Default Warranty?

If you purchased it from Ebay, do you have the warranty carried by McIntosh? Some people doesn't have their Warranty honored by McIntosh when they purchase it from un-authorized dealer.

Just my curiosity,...
Thanks for your info again... $600 for MC440 is a steal... can you direct me to the seller? Thanks again
