anybody use one of these? does it help? i'm using an alpine amp with my stock head unit (i drive an rx300 w/nak system no nav). i'm getting a lot of engine/alternator noise...per the ads i've seen, these kits should eliminate/reduce that...any opinions on this?

there is no reason why you shouldnt be able to cure any noise problems by simply re-doing the install. Alternator noise is not a problem, it is a result of a problem.

the ground wire upgrade will work to improve the performance of your alternator, but will not help with engine noise.
also if you are a DIY'er just swap the three grounds with 4 guage wire
