Well i just purchased a 1994 Nakamichi head unit that i plan to install in my 1990 LS400 to replace the stock Pioneer head unit.Question is can i use any CD changer with the Nak or do i need the 6 CD original Nak changer? Anything else i need to do to integrate this unit into my stock system? All info greatly appreciated! TIA!

it can be done but it is the hardest of all pioneer to nakamichi switches. its even harder if your car wasnt prewired for a cd changer at the factory. the main problem is rewiring to the trunk. the 90 ls400 radio had an internal 4 channel amp and a 1 channel external subwoofer amp in the trunk. i will private message you with details of the instalation.

Thanks for the info lexusaudio.I'm trying to get a CD in the LS with a minimum of pain.Perhaps i shold look for a Pioneer unit with the CD controls.Do you know what years would work in a 90 LS400? and what year CD changers would with that said year? In other words can i use a Pioneer Head unit from 90-94 with a CD controller in combo with the 6 disc changer also from 90-94? Thanks!

BRADSTER,YES THAT WOULD BE A PLUG IN AND PLAY 1 HOUR INSTALATION PROJECT. NO WIRE SPLICING ,NO DASHBOARD KITS NEEDED ,NO ADJUSTMENT OF VOLTAGE OUTS,NO NEW AMPS AND SPEAKERS. BUT JUST PLUG IN AND PLAY. THE RADIO AMP DOESNT TUEN ON TO FULL FIDELITY UNTIL YOU KEY UP THE CD BUTTON SO YOU HAVNT HEARD YOUR STEREO SYSTEM AT FULL FIDELITY YET. CHECK YOUR PM MESAAGES PROMPT BELOW THE FORUM PROMPT FOR YOUR PRIVATE MESSAGES.

Thanks,that really narrows my search
I clicked on PM but all it does is allow me to send you a private message,i guess there is a PM in there waiting for me but i can't seem to access it.Any idea how much i should pay for a 90-94 Pioneer CD head unit with 6 cd changer for my 90 LS400? I saw a 94 model of these 2 units for 350.00-is it worthy?

NO YOU NEED THE 90 TO 92 PIONEER RADIO P626 OR P625 ID NUMBERS ON THE TAPE CASSETTE FLAP TO HAVE THE BEST COMPATIBILITY WITH YOUR SPEAKERS. THE PRICES ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE SELLERS TRUSTWORTHEYNESS AND HIS RETRURN POLICY IF SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE UNITS.

I'm pretty positive there's no amp for the door speakers in the 1990-1992 LS400's. There is one for the sub.
I read in a TSB somewhere that an amplifier was added to improved sound response in the 1993 LS's.
Another explanation is that simply wiring a new headunit with a toyota wire harness still makes the door speakers work. If there was an amp, it would have to be powered first before sound could be output to the speakers.

How problematic is it to install a 94 Pioneer CD head unit/6 CD changer combo into my 90 LS400? Of course 90-92 components are a slam dunk but is the above difficult? Thanks! Also does anyone know the model numbers for the Pioneer cd head unit and 6 cd changer 90-92?
