Talking Compass Mirror Upgrade

Ok, it doesn't take much to make me happy, but here is the latest upgrade! Perfect for the Directionally-Challenged non-nav Lexus owner.

Thanks I'm quite pleased! I really didn't want to put an aftermarket mirror on there, but the dealership quoted me a price of $550.00 for the compass mirror (is that insane or what). Fortunately I was able to get this Lexus mirror for a fraction of the cost ( Thanks!! )

I've been getting PMs for pictures, it's pretty straightforward and took only 10-15min including calibration time. I did snap some pictures ( 512mb memory card in the camera, I take pics of everything ) that I'll post later this evening or tomorrow.

Its the little things that make me happy!

Default Here are the pics!

Here it is, before the install, front view

Here is the rear

First you have to pull off the garage door opener panel - this was done with a thin flatblade screwdriver

Remove these two screws from inside the garage door opener panel

Next remove the clear plastic cover for the dome/map lights - used same screwdriver

Here is a look at the New Compass Mirror (A) and the Old automatic dim mirror (B). Looks to be electrical tape on the new mirror's harness but I didn't check it since I was in a rush

I didn't get pictures of it, but you need to pop the plastic cover off the top of the mirror (where it touches the headliner). Inside that cover there is a screw that you need to remove, this holds it to the glass-mount.

Next pull down on the front part of the lamp assembly and slide it forward, this exposes the mirror plug (A) and the hole you should feed it through (B).

That's it, reverse the process and follow the instructions on calibrating your new mirror!

If its not already done could we add this to the DIY section? There is more good information in here than just the rear view mirror replacement!

Thanks for those pics!

My pleasure to do it, just giving back the little I can. I'll leave the real DIYs to BannanaGS and stick to things my skill level
