Post Whaaat you hearing me?

So after installing my system I've realized I listen to my music really loud. I'm wondering if any of you with big systems can still hear? My system is very modest and it still hurts my ears if I listen at high volumes for too long. Do you only turn up the volume for short periods or what? I'm a musician so I need to have things loud! I'm just wondering about the listening habits of everyone else here.

Earl! ,

I have 1400 watts at my disposal but am only cranking it at around 70 dBA. In other words, I want to be able to hear the conversation of the nice young lady that I'm with.

Interestingly enough you can tell what type of people they are by how loud they turn on the radio. My last date liked it at "holy smokes" loud. Go deaf! Probably around 90 dBA. Sure wish I had earplugs...

It's got to be loud. I am 32 and have had loud system's (home and car)since I was about 12, and I am paying for it now. My boat still has a huge system and my ears start burning after a hour in it. My ears have rung constantly since I was about 16 and periodically leak a fluid out when listening to a concert or loud music for a while. I still have to add a sub to the new car, as the ML sub isn't enough for me, need some spare time. It's all about good clean LOUD music for me. Hopefully when my ears get bad enough they will have a medical procedure to repair them.

I like it loud when I am alone driving. That does not happen too often unfortunately.

I'm 21 and sometimes wonder if I've lost a tiny bit of hearing. I don't do it for long periods at a time, but I enjoy a system that's hitting in the 140's. I think once I get bass in the ES I'll go get some earplugs, hearing is a valuable thing; I don't want to push it too far.

I'm glad I'm not alone here! I wish I had some way to measure the db level in my car, if there's an easy way someone please let me know.

For you guys that want ear plugs....I use "Hearos - Extreme," they reduce sound levels by 33db!!! They can be purchased at your local drug store. Even though I do not use them when I drive or perform, I do use ear plugs when I rehearse because as Kyle said, hearing is a valuable thing. It can be damaged if you sustain long periods at high db levels.
