GS300 radio LCD issues
Hello!
This is my first post on the Lexus Club Forum, so forgive me if I ovelooked a Search function that might answer my question.
The LCD Display on the Pioneer radio of my 99 GS300 is garbled to the point of not being able to make out any of the data. This started as an intermittent issue, where one side of the screen was garbeld, or some of the digits were faint, and it would correct itself after driving a bit. Now it is all the time, and the whole screen is illedgible.
My question is, is this common in this model? Can just the LCD portion be replaced, or does it require a whole new head unit? If I need to replace the entire head unit, are there any reputable sources for used parts?
By the way, dealer quoted me close to $700.00 for the unit itself, not including labor
Any help is greatly appreciated!
David
edit.... searched and found that I'm not alone with my Pioneer LCD issues, but no mention of out of warranty replacements, or of any sources outside of the dealer for used units.

Radio LCD
I had the same problem, then I read the owners manual it states that condensation builds in the unit from the AC at times because the unit is located in the glove box this inturn scrambles the LCD up on the screen but if u wait awhile u will notice that it will eventually fix itself. Unsure if u r using the AC, but this info resolved my problem....

My display is the same but it hasn't acted up in awhile. I kept a disposable camera in the car and I actually got two pics(cheap *** camera) of it happening. I am going to present the pics next week as part of my 30k service. Hopefully, yours is still under warranty. If not, I wouldn't spend the 700 bucks for OEM. Aftermarket system, perhaps?

unfortunately mine is out of warranty, so no go there. I'm hoping to find out if I can just replace the LCD screen (crosses fingers...), or if I have to replace the head unit, I'd like to find a good condition used unit.
Thanks, and good luck with your car!

Can you buy just LCD display, or you have to replace the entire unit? It seems like there is a loose contact going to LCD display. You may have to take it apart and clean contacts.
