Default Time for new SPEAKERS

I have a 1997 SC400 which I love.

Unfortunately, I need new speakers.
I don't have a clue as to what will work.
Any suggestions? I looked at BEST BUY,, but the choices are just too many..

I installed some Rockford Fosgate 4" speakers from eBay in the stock housing. They fit good and sound better than the old stock ones.

You should upgrade to 6.5". Look up pvc speaker adapters for our cars. And check out sonicelectronix.com

So, the PVC adapter I found (car-speaker-adapters.com SAK087) was pretty much a plate that sealed the door panel behind where the stock 4" speaker was and leaves a hole for a 5.25" or 6.5" speaker. Is that what you're talking about?

I ask because the stock 4" speaker is in a tuned and ported box that also aligns and angles the speaker appropriately for the grill that sticks out from the door panel ahead of the arm rest.. I mean, sure, going to a larger speaker may be nice in some ways, but it's important to also point out that you're at least losing the noise isolation of the box, plus the tuning of the box, and you're also focusing the sound through a 4" hole a few inches ahead of the new speaker, so you're pointing the sound in to your knee even worse than the factory speaker.

You may have taken a couple steps forward in size and low frequency response, but I think you might have taken a step or 5 back in a few other aspects.

Oh, and that sonicelectronix.com, they seem to think a dual 10" box made specifically for a Camaro fits my 98 SC400. While they got the 4" front and rear plus 10" sub sizes right, they seem to be under the impression that a Rockford Fosgate Punch P3D4-10 would fit the stock 10" location in the rear deck, nevermind that you'd be well in to the gas tank before you sunk it down to the rear deck. They didn't factor in any depth limitations. Crutchfield gets this right. They even know that the factory Pioneer systems are either 1 or 2 ohms (they don't seem particularly aware of the 5 ohm Nakamichi sub, or assume going from 5 to 4 ohms is a fairly negligible change.)

Possibly, but in the context of the OP stating "I don't have a clue as to what will work", it's probably worth noting that their recommendations weren't always helpful even if their prices might be good.
