shorted electrical system
sorry i have to vent here and need help.
picked up my 03 gs3 sport design after stereo and speaker installed and 3 hours later after my friend and i ate dinner and start driving out of the parking lot, the damn electrical system shorted because the mounted positive wire was touching the edge of the car hood!
everything failed, the engine and lights all shut down whats worst my friend started seeing smoke from under the hood where the battery is, so i popped the hood there is a fire, the 4 gauge positive wire was on fire. so i blow it out lucky it went out and nothing was really burned beyond the wire.
but the battery now is all drained, no power at all and after i jumped the car, can't put it into drive or turn the lights on, the engine would just die instantly.
can anyone help, do you guys think the battery is gone and by replacing the battery would solve the dying engine problem when attempting to drive or having the lights on?
any suggestions or advice.
thanks in advance

yes, there is fuse, this is a very reputable and professional installation shop.
i had my is300 install there and there was no problem.
they do alot of high end car at this shop.
do you think its just simply the battery that dead.
i had to call road asistance to lexus and they have my towed back to my house, this was late last night.
thanks in advance

But if your positive was touching your hood after the install, it will take a few seconds before you see smoke...in 3 hrs your car could be in worse shape....
this happend to me before because I used one of those huge fancy stinger battery terminals and i never would've thought i had a clearance issue with my hood...i closed the hood and started working at the back of my car and smelled something burning within 15 seconds...the insulation between the fuse and the terminal (about 5 inches long) was completly melted and it also melted some of the metal and foam from the hood where it came in contact...

thanks for all the response and input guys.
i called the stereo shop owner and he sent out the main installer and tech guy and checked everything out and find out it was the battery that was warpped. so they replace the battery with an other lexus factory battery.
had my car in last night at the dealer for the 1k service and they checked everything out and said the electrical system is fine.
so far things seem to be normal at this time, stereo is working as it should. hope nothing else is shot that no one is aware of.
thank alot guys.
