If you see my sig, I got several aftermarket audio components.
Well, I'm not happy with any of the installation quality, but the worst is the subwoofer.
I don't know what the hell they did to it, but it is as weak as the stock if not weaker, and it rattles like a b****. The pioneer 10" is powered by a 300 watt alpine. Even if I put the sub-level all the way up, it's very weak, and when I push the volume up about half way, I hear this nasty distortion along with rattling.
In addition, when there is any slight left-to-right chasis twist, the rear deck sounds as if it's going to break in to pieces. Also it rattles with audio off when cruising on rough roads. I brough it into the audio shop, and all they did was add "padding" to the rear deck, and I notice the sound quality is even worse.
Any suggestions?

it might be because its a free air sub...they usually sound pretty crappy. im not to sure cuz im kno nothing about that sub and i couldnt find it on the pioneer's site. But for the GS the mounting brackets on the stock sub is very different from that of the mounting holes on any sub. It was almost a square shape...that might be one of the reasons for rattling. But free air subs dont usually sound very great. Putting it in a sealed box should help the sound alot....sorry for the lack of info....hope someone else can help u out more

The Alpine MRD-M300 puts out 600 W max, 300 W at 2 ohm, 150 W at 4 Ohm. The Pioneer TS-W254F's nominal impedance is at 4 ohms, and is rated to handle 250 W continuous/500 W max. So looks like your Pioneer should be able to handle the Alpine at 4 ohm. Have you checked you amp's crossover settings? Are you sure you have a good woofer, no damage to the cone? Maybe the woofer isn't installed properly or your trunk isn't acting as a proper enclosure. Any chance you accidentally got a TS-W254C instead of the F?

If you have the owners manual to the Alpine MRD-M300, it has instructions on how to make certain adjustments (read pages 12-13), including the crossover frequency. The amp has a control center that you can access under the top mounted access panel. There are a couple of buttons there that you use to check and adjust amp settings as needed. You do not have to mess with the wiring.
If you don't have the manual, just go to alpine-usa.com and print off a copy. Keep in mind what sleepyboi said, free air woofers generally do not sound as well as woofers in properly built enclosures. However, I can't imagine your Pioneer free air being as weak as your factory OEM woofer if everything was installed and working properly.
