Default ES-330 2005 Aux Adapter Volume Too Low

Hi guys! So i'm really new around here and I wasn't sure where to post this question so please forgive me if this is the wrong place for it. So my problem is that I recently added this
aux adapter aux adapter
to my 2005 ES-330 (With Navigation) and to my dismay, I found that the sound was really low when I plugged in my phone to listen to music (I tried multiple phones). The stock radio sounds much higher when compared to the aux adapter. I was wondering if there was something I was doing wrong or just not understanding about car audio (First time Dabbler). I only plugged the 12 pin connector of the aux adapter to the back of the stereo where I believe the changer port is (I did not use the Y-shaped cable that came with the aux adapter). Do I somehow have to do something with the speakers? Would getting a new head unit such as a pioneer solve the problem? Any help at all would be much appreciated
