Default Next Gen. Navi

My first post here, but I thought you guys might be interested in seeing a quick preview of the next gen Toyota / Lexus navi.

This is a next gen navi head unit from the 2004 Solara (started production not long ago) installed in my IS. It's quite a bit better that the current system and includes some new features.

Looks like the same nav from the '03 Camry too. Any other new features?

The software is all new for 2004. A lot more POI have been added, the screen designs changed, new searching methods, and even building footprints in some cities. Not to mention it's faster.

The hardware looks the same, but its actually all been combined into the head unit (no head unit and seperate ECU) So now the head unit has a slot for the map DVD.

It should be out soon on several Lexus models.

I wonder if the new software will work in our existing DVD based navigation systems. It appears profitable for Lexus charging $500 just to incorporate the latest Navtech map database and only once increasing the number POI's. If the update price includes the latest generation software with better user interface and faster performance it would be worth the half grand price.

Also the same front end as in my 2004 Sienna. But the Sienna has the separate ECU under the passenger seat, no voice recognition, etc.
