Dealer will charge you about @200 for a replacement pioneer unit.
If you plan on replacing this with an aftermarket subwoofer you will need to do some creative thinking to figure out a mount for a newer one. The stock woofer is part of the metal frame that holds it in, replacement is not a simple swap.

You sure it is a 6"? I'm thinking it is more like 8" like all the other 1st gen LS. Well either way you can get the free air Pioneer sub for a lot cheaper.

Right now I actually took out my stock one because it disinigrated on me and stuck in a 8 inch that i had laying around. It actually snuggled in there pretty well (it was obviously too big) but sits there and doesn't make any noises or movements so I am happy. Works very very well and sounds a lot better!
BTW--the factory subwoofer is in fact, a 6.5 inch-I am positive of that!

I suggest you get a ruler and measure it. My 92 has a bigger speaker than 6 inches. I bought a factory replacement from iron toad for a lot less than retail. Be careful and specify that you want the speaker made for the american market the one that speaks english. Carpe diem.

so many answers...who to listen to? so what is it? 6.-6.5 or 8 inch? it is the speaker in the rear with the brakelight near the backseat headrest area and to me it does look like a 6inch, but i'm not sure i havent taken it out yet.
Jasoneo5, you put an 8inch in there, but does the sub cover still fit over it?

Ok fine, you had a 6.5" sub Jason, I'm not interested in debating that. But you did say you installed an 8" sub.
Anyway back to the topic: sub replacement. I say you buy some kind of 8" free air sub mastermind. The sub you buy will probably not fit exactly the same as the factory one, so create a baffle to attach it. Just about whatever you buy to replace it will sound better than that factory sub! I suggest you do a forum search because this topic has been discussed many times.
The smallest sub is called an 8". Anything below eight inches is either a mid-range speaker or a tweeter.
8, 10, 12, 15, and 18 are standard subwoofer sizes.
