Cool. I must confess that I purchased the recommended size 6.5” round speakers and trimmed the door’s speaker openings a bit to make them fit. Also drilled new screw holes as needed to mount them securely - no adapters.

As I recall, the adapters were nearly as expensive as the JBL speakers I’d bought and didn’t really appear necessary. I did apply a good bit of sound deadening material behind and around each door speaker and I think that helped as much or more than the speaker upgrade :-).

Is your Kicker amp only driving your sub(s), or does it drive the door speakers as well?

Default 98 Lexus ES300 Constant power

I have replaced the factory HU with an aftermarket one. The problem I'm having is the constant 12V no longer has power. All the fuses are good. I'm not sure if I accidentally shorted it. Does anyone have any idea where the problem may be. I did run a temporary wire to the wiring harness and the stereo works. Does the constant power come from the amplifier?

Can someone help me out with a few questions? Looking to install a Sony headunit in my '99 ES300. I've installed quite a few of them in other vehicles but all straight forward. I'm skipping Phase 1 and going straight to Phase 2, i'm confused as to why it says another 8112, do you need 2 Metra 70-8112's, or do you only need 1 if skipping straight to Phase 2? So basically you're just running the 8112 and 1761 directly to the headunit wiring harness correct?? Thanks!

One brings power back to the headunit, and the other translates the car wiring if I'm not mistaken. Let me know if this makes sense - I'll reread the thread and see if I can remember. I remember installing it such that no wires were cut and I could have reversed it without any issue, but there's really no reason to go back. I do remember that the Metra didn't have a wire for the subwoofer and I had to add that. If I had to do it all again, I'd add another wire for the dimmer switch because that works, even though it isn't present on the Metra. I think I cannibalized a different Metra harness to add the two additional wires to it.

Here's the Soundstream amp sitting in the space where the CD changer used to be. Kind of janky when you open the glovebox, but the placement for wiring was perfect. It powers all 5 channels without issue, decent price. You can reach the controls on the left side of the amp without too much trouble. It still sounds amazing.

Oh ok I understand now, I was going between reading this and watching a YouTube video of someone doing it and that's where I got confused, guy on YouTube looked like he ran all the power wires and everything from the harness from the amp straight to the head unit, where as in this tutorial you're only running the 8 speaker wires. Got it all wired up now so hopefully got everything how it's supposed to be, I followed this one as I already had the 2 harnesses. Just waiting on my dash kit to come in Monday and hopefully all is good. Thanks!

Here is my harness, hopefully everything is right. After everything is plugged in just need to connect the 8 speaker wires. I purchased BHA8112 which are the kits with the orange wires for the dimmer. Wasn't sure if I had to run that to the amplifier as well but I assumed not, if I have to run another wire later I will.

Hello. For some reason my subwoofer does not work. I think there is no audio input from the wires. I have it connected to the S8BC (in the electrical wiring diagram)/ Metra 1761 (the smaller one). Is it wired correctly?
