Faded Radio Panel Display On 99 GS 400
Hello,
I have been looking at pre-owned 1999 GS-400's, and the last 3 models had unreadable radio displays. I have been going back into the archives, but have not been able to find out a solution for this other than to replace the whole display at Lexus. Since most 99 GS's are out of the original factory warranty, it will have to be paid for by the owner. Apparently this was a problem with the LS models as well, right?
Does anyone have an idea how much these displays cost complete with labor to install? Why do they go bad? This is the only thing holding me up on purchasing one of the GS-400's I have seen.
Sorry to ask a question that has obviously been asked and answered so many times in the past, but I could not find the thread for myself.
Thanks,
GSEREP1

Man,
That would make me think twice about getting this car. I wonder what the Navigational screen would cost if it went out?
Does anyone else have any info on tis subject?
Thanks

you can get it replaced by factory warranty, ( for the lexus certified pre-owned ) no big deal. The problem only occurs with the non navigation/nagamichi system GS. I haven't heard of any people have problems with their nav.

About $53 for the LCD part
The OEM LCD replacement is about $53 for the LCD display (it's not the whole faceplate, just the display), add ~$5 shipping, then maybe 1 hr of specialized labor at your electronics shop (or just do it yourself), and you've got yourself a new radio display. You can order a new LCD display from www.pacparts.com (see a previous post of mine a couple of weeks back).

i dont recommend just buying just the 98 to 2003 gs pioneer made lcd for $52.10. the complete lcd unit is $98.91 and requires no assembly. the complete lcd unit that costs 98.91 includes the lcd circuit board with attached 100 line ribbon cable and the $52.10 lcd screen and is all assembled. anyone with a #1 phillips screw driver could change out the whole lcd unit. just 2 screws holding it in.if you just buy the lcd screen without the lcd circuit board you have to attach it to the ribbon cable which would require electronic expertise.

sorry for bringing up an old post, but i recently bought just the replacement LCD...
I removed the old one and interface board with ribbon cable.
When I removed the ribbon cable from the OLD LCD, it took off most of the adhesive.
Tried to reattatch it to the new LCD, and it would not stick.
Anyone know what adhesive I need?

sorry i replied on a new thread accidentally. its subject is radio lcd display pioneer posted on april 8. maybe the person giving the 53.00 lcd glass screen replacement knows how to attach it. the 98.00 price is for the whole lcd unit replacement with screen and circuit bord all attached ready to drop in the head unit. i was offering a complete part with drop in replacement with no lcd to glue on . thatsa why the price was higher.
