Default should i go w/ kicker solobarics 2x 10in. subs or 1 15in. sub

Well im looking to buy a system for my Rx330. Kicker solobarics was my number one choice but im wondering if i should go with 2 10inch L7 4 ohms or 1 15inch L7 4 ohms. I was thinking if i get one sub i would have more space left in the trunk rather getting 2 10's, but would 1 15 sound better or as equal as 2 10's in a jeep?

I'm confused what car are you putting the subs in, the RX or the Jeep?

Either way....I think two 10" subs sound better than one 15". With both setups you would probably need a box of roughly the same size.

if you are going to use the same amp then theoretically 2 tens will be louder because of the cone area

20" vs. 15"

this does not take into account box design but cone area is a good rule of thumb

I've never heard of that one. Good point

well mainly i wanted 1 15' so i can have more trunk space. Then again i was thinking of getting the 2 10's mounted on the trunk floor but right below that theres a spare tire so i dont think its possible?

The two tens will sound better than the single 15, in my opinion. The tens will have tighter, more responsive bass. The 15 will have big bass, but not as tight.

Go with the 2 tens.

Uhh, simple mathematics. pi x r^2. One 10" subwoofer has ~78.5 square inches surface area. Multiply that by two= 157. One 15" subwoofer ~176 square inches surface area. So the 15" has that advantage (as well as less SA lost due to surround, which I believe counts as 33% the value as it would if it were cone. The 15" also will probably have a lower Fs and will probably be cheaper. I hope you didn't already purchase the two 10's....

Speaker size has NOTHING to do with how 'tight' it sounds. I would recommend reading inductance articles written by Dan Wiggens over yonder: www.adireaudio.com

Yep, the 15" L7 does have a lower FS (and is cheaper).

Gary, can we still use the PI x R^2 equation for square subwoofers (L7's in this case)?

StyleZ, are you certain that you are going to buy Kicker L7's or are you still open to suggestions? What is your preference of music?

It's a good thing that Kicker doesn't use those horrible "Audiobahn-Style Fat Boy Surrounds." Those practically take up more SA than the actual cone itself!

Area of a square= length x width.

The L7's are pretty underdamped. They will require a large box if you want a flat frequency response. Just pointing that out since you mentioned trunk space...

That's what I thought too.

StyleZ, if you're looking into saving space in your trunk (and if you want a better quality subwoofer), I would look into an Elemental Designs e15A subwoofer (in a nutshell, it is a simply awesome subwoofer with great sound-quality and can get low-'n-loud when you want it too). It also doesn't require huge enclosures that subwoofers (like L7's) desire.

The square/circle talk reminds me of something that happened last week. A girl called me saying she was just pulled over for a DUI on campus and needed me to pick her up and bring her home. I asked her what part of campus and she said 'the Pentagon Circle.' I told her to reflect on her dumb comment while I was on my way...
