Nick,

There is nothing else holding the mast in.

do you have to pull while the antenna is going up? and if so from where base or by the top of the antenna?
What if the little teeth are stuck somehow inside the gear and it doesn't release?? One antenna , such a pain in the .... I don't understand....

Nick,

My mast pretty much ejected fully by itself, very little pulling, mostly guiding to prevent scratches when it released.

Push it back in and try it again from fully retracted position.

ok but i doubt it'll go all the way down cause i tried that already it just goes up the original sticking point....
Anyways thanks DJL i'll try doing that tomorow or something. When i go deal with the dumb body shop.. the car goes in for body repairs comes out with a muffler loose . Again thanks alot djl i'll try to do that and try again, this is turning into a big hasle.

I have exactly the symptoms you have described, and it is not the antenna mast. What is happening is that as the antenna is being retracted, the load on the motor increases as more antenna is forced to coil up inside the house, eventually causing the gear with the broken center shaft to skip.

Just take out your mast and visually inspect the teeth, very easy to do:

Are you referring to the drive gears in the housing unit or the coil grip strip that is attached to the mast?
From your directive you stated that it is not the antenna mast, but yet you instructed to take out the mast and inspect the teeth.

Emerald,

I wanted Nick to check his mast just to make sure the cause of his problem is the same as my unit, did not want to mislead or waste his time on something that did not apply to him.

I haven't tried again since that point. I'm pretty sure I was doing it right I'll redo it this weekend but i'm pretty sure I was doing it right... worse comes to worse i'll look for a whole assembly dealership said the part would cost about 236 USD for a brand new one I hope it is as easy ast just pressing "AM" and "cd" while i turn the key tio ACC..

If not, there is an alternate resolution to get the mast out. It's more mechanical than just pushing buttons.

Thanks for your help guys but I might need help on installing it.
To remove ant. mast remove ant. nut and turn on radio and it will push itself out, leave radio on to install new mast get someone to sit in car and you start to feed mast in till it stops have helper turn off radio and you hold mast so it can feed it self back in and replace ant. nut. It's that simple!

it doesn't work.... the antenna does not come out. I was using the AnT code upto when it just reached the upwards most point and just stoped without coming out. so I helped it feed by pressing it as much as it goes down and tried it agian.. and again it would just go all the way up and stop there without coming out. maybe that trick was not used for a 92 and it was for later years.... again this is what I did
1) pressed AM and CD at the same time
2)while holding the two buttons turned the key to the ACC position kept holding the buttons till it reached the upwards most point...("AnT" was dispayed on the nak screen). held it for a few more second to half a minute and the antenna mast was not released. for some reason this damn thing is trying to **** me off untill I reach my antenna-breaking point so I walked away to cool down... I was trying with another person to do it also.
