it would be appealing.....to people who can't afford it. Again when you are competing at the level of Ferrari and Lamborghini reliability is not an issue. For the price, who is going to take the front engine Grand Tourer style of the LF-A over the mid-engine exotic styling of either the 360 Modena, F430 or Gallardo.
I disagree. I have seen plenty of people on TV shows and whatnot complaining about routine $5,000 trips to the shop for their Ferrari. If you could get something similar in terms of performance and appeal, without the maintenance nightmare, I really do think that would appeal to a lot of people, even super-rich ones. If Ferrari suddenly made some innovation that cut their maintenance costs in half, I think more people would want to buy them. I don't agree that reliability or maintenance is a non-issue at this price point.

But the 575M Maranello costs $220k and has a V12 to begin with. I still think the M6 is the LF-A closest competitor.

They just want to have a "halo" car at the line up, and want to prove to the world that Toyota can build a great sports exotic also. This is a marketing campaign for Lexus/Toyota to show their "sporty" side.

Once again, if and only if they have the performance to back it up. It better be at least as fast as the M6/SL65/F430.
honestly, i dont think it will be priced anywhere as close.

And another thing is that cars that cost $170,000 are not really the fastest cars in the world. F360 is definetly not king of any performance rating. You need huge image to sell at that level.

I think $170,000 is a strong possibility, but who knows, $100,000 would be analogous to the way the LS 400 started out in 1990...undercut the competition severely at first.

The front is not being redesigned because of the negative reception by people. The production front end design has been finalized since 2004 when the first spy pics were taken months before the LF-A concept was even presented to the public in Detroit 2005.

I'm sorry but a front end change from the concept does not justify the price, you are cutting Toyota too much slack.
I won't mind the front end as much if it is like your sig pics and the spy photos they supposedly match. The concept itself I like ok, but the front end bugs me there. In your sig, it looks a lot nicer.

Lexus says the LF-A concept is an exotic, I've not read anything about the M6 being an exotic

The NSX came out with a V6 and competed with the 348 and 355 with a V8, and the NSX under cut Ferrari by an MSRP ~60k at launch

I will say don't underestimate Lexus.

People said the SAME thing "oh a 30k Lexus/40k Lexus" back in 1989.

And look what happened.

For $170,000, i'd say this is most directly competing with the DB9 and Gallardo. However, the DB9 is more of a gt car while the gallardo is pretty much straight out sports cars.

Do we know for certain that this info is even remotely close?

As other people have said, whats to stop people from getting a 911 Turbo for $50,000 less? I'm not underestimating Lexus, but when they leaped into new territory in 1989, they undersold their cars in order to get people in them. While lexus has been a very established and successful brand for the last 17 years, the exotic car market is completely uncharted territory for them. In fact, next year they are only now breaking into the long wheel base sedan market. I think a price of $120,000 or so would be more feasible. However, I have faith in their marketing department. So far they haven't let Lexus down.

Default ohh the hate

so what if it costs 120k, 170k 220k? If it has a price point in that range it will knock the socks off of whatever is priced near or above it. Why risk it if it won't perform? Toyota did not get where they are by doing what other's set as a precident(sp). Everyone asks for a supercar, and they might give us one, and it doesn't make many happy...what gives?

The car is gonna be something else.

That Z06 is looking pretty good at 75k.

It didn't hit me until now, but as great as the LF-A is going to be.... the F430 is one of the most capable road cars ever made, and what i'd consider a bargain at $180,000. It provides near Enzo performance for a fraction of the price. We're talkin 0-60 in 3.5seconds and the handling to match it.
