Default 1990 Lexus LS400, 107K Miles, Fantastic Condition, Exceptional Car

Up for your consideration is a 1990 Lexus LS400 Sedan. The VIN Number for this Lexus is JT8UF11E5L0041128. Mileage: 107,309.

This car was purchased in February of 2011 from a dealership outside of Philadelphia, PA with only 82,000 miles on the odometer at time of purchase. The car now has 107,309 miles, so it has only been driven 25,309 miles in four and a half years. This vehicle was a one owner car at the time of purchase, so I am the second owner. According to the service records available from Lexus, the original owner drove the car regularly the first couple of years of ownership, and then the car was barely driven as shown in the extremely low mileage for the year.

This particular car was not purchased as a daily driver, and has been used sparingly in the time I have owned it. I am fanatical about the condition of my cars, and this car is no exception. This car has had a number of cosmetic enhancements and has had any and all service performed to keep it in perfect mechanical condition. I have service records and receipts for all work done to the car since I’ve owned it.

The only reason for selling is it just does not get driven (we have 8 cars in our household) and I don’t have the space or need for it any longer.

OPTIONS:

This LS400 is equipped with the following options and equipment:

Exterior Color: The car was originally Jade Green Metallic and Gray two tone. The car was repainted in a monochromatic Jade Green Metallic without the Gray two tone. Please see the upgrades and service items section below for more information.

Interior Color: Beige leather seats with cream colored carpeting.

Brakes: Standard OEM Lexus rotors and brake pads

Wheels: Car came with original 15” Lexus wheels, which can go with the car if the new owner desires. Wheels were upgraded to 19” Sport Edition alloys with performance summer tires.

Electronic Auto Climate Control

Automatic Transmission with variable “economy” and “power” modes.

Engine: Original Lexus 4.0 liter Dual Overhead Cam V8 Engine (1UZ-FE) (250 horsepower)

Suspension: Originally equipped with air suspension. Car has been converted to shocks/struts for reliability.

Originally equipped with Lexus Nakamichi premium sound system. System has been updated, although I do have the original head unit and factory amplifier.

Power locks, mirrors, windows

Car originally equipped with keyless entry. (Please see notes below)

Factory sunroof. Sunroof functions perfectly.

UGRADES AND SERVICE ITEMS

This car is mostly original, with the exception of the upgrades that are outlined below. The car has stock exhaust and engine, with NO powertrain modifications. It has no damage history and has never been involved in an accident, which is pretty astounding for a car that is approaching 26 years in service. The following cosmetic and maintenance items have been performed on this car:

• Paint: The car was in excellent condition cosmetically when I purchased it, but I decided to restore the car soon after purchase. The car was professionally repainted in the same factory Jade Green Metallic color, without the gray two tone on the lower half of the car. The car is one single color now. The paint was done in 2011, and was perfect at the time of painting. The car has been driven since then, and does have some blemishes in the paint that are in line with approximately 25,000 miles of use. Any imperfections have been noted in the pictures of the car. Overall the car is in excellent condition, and looks fantastic for a car that is approaching 26 years of age. Most people think the car is a much newer Lexus and can’t believe it is a 1990.

• The car had a new OEM Lexus front grill installed in 2011.

• The power antenna has been replaced with an OEM antenna, and works flawlessly.

• The front turn indicators and tail lights have been changed to clear lenses to update the exterior. The original lights are available and can go with the car if the new owner wishes to change them back to stock.

• The headlight bulbs have been upgraded to Sylvania Silverstar bulbs for greater light output.

• The air suspension is a common failure point in these cars. This car has had the air suspension removed and replaced with Lexus OEM shocks and Eibach springs. OEM parts were purchased from Sewell Lexus in Dallas, TX.

• The climate control LCD screen is another common failure on these cars. This has been rebuilt with a new LCD unit that should last for the life of the car.

• The steering wheel leather was restored in original factory color using genuine automotive leather. Usually the steering wheels on these cars are ripped, faded, torn, scratched, etc.

• The hood support struts have been replaced (another common failure on these cars).

• The car has new OEM Lexus LS400 carpeted floor mats.

• Stereo system: This car came equipped with the optional Lexus-Nakimichi sound system. The entire stereo system was upgraded in 2011, with new Focal speakers in all four doors, an Alpine 5 channel amplifier, JL Audio subwoofer in the trunk, and an Alpine head unit. The Alpine Unit has since been replaced with a new unit that is only a few months old. The system cost around $3000 and was professionally installed by Car Toys in Lone Tree, Colorado. The stereo sounds amazing, and I have chosen to leave it in place for the sale of the car. If the new owner would like to return the system to stock, I do have the original factory head unit and factory amplifier. I do not have the original speakers, as they were too dry rotted from age to save. The stereo does have Bluetooth and ipod capability.

• The car also had a new keyless entry system installed, since the original factory system no longer worked (and the original keys did not come with the car). This system is still in place, however it has been disabled due to a potential battery drain issue.

• The car has had oil and filter changes regularly, with Mobil One synthetic oil and Toyota or Fram filters. All required maintenance items have been performed on the car. In May of 2014 the car had all major 100,000 mile service items performed, including the following: New timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, OEM plug wires, OEM thermostat, serpentine belt, OEM idler pulleys, timing belt tensioner, alternator, coolant flush.

• In June of this year, the car’s Air Conditioning system was serviced, and was converted to R-134A. The system can now be serviced by any A/C shop and blows cold with no leaks.

• The brake rotors and pads were changed in March of 2011 and do not require servicing.

• The car’s suspension was completely overhauled in 2011 with all new bushings, ball joints and sway bar end links (also a weak point of these cars due to age).

• Brand new battery, only a couple of weeks old.

• Windows have been tinted. I don’t recall what percent tint they are, but they are Colorado state legal and are not extremely dark.

• Wood trim console panel (around shifter) has been refinished and is in excellent condition.

• The wheels have been upgraded to 19 inch Sport Edition alloys, with Hankook Ventus V-12 Evo summer performance tires in size 245/35-19. The wheels/tires were purchased from tirerack in 2011, and are about 4 ½ years old. The car does come with the original 15 inch Lexus wheels with snow tires that are less than a year old.

• Car has never been smoked in.

KNOWN ISSUES

• Tachometer has recently stopped working. I haven’t attempted to troubleshoot the issue as it just began happening in the past week. It may be an effect of the colder weather we have had recently. It should be an easy fix although it doesn’t affect the operation of the vehicle.

• Aftermarket keyless entry system has been disabled, although it is still wired and comes with the vehicle.

• Paint has begun to peel in a small area on the rear bumper. (see photo)

• Passenger side rear door speaker panel is missing. I do have a new OEM replacement panel, but it is the wrong color. It could be dyed and then installed and can come with the car if the new owner desires.

• Driver side door lock/window unit is lifting from the arm rest. It functions just fine, just needs to be re-attached to the inner arm rest. This is a common issue on these cars as a result of age.

EXTRA’S

• I have most of the original parts that have come off the car if the new owner would like them.

• The original Lexus 15 inch wheels come with the car, and they have nearly new (used one season) snow tires on them for use during the winter months.

• Car has the original Lexus tool kit with all tools still in place. Car also comes with the original owner’s manual in the glove box.

• I have all service receipts, records and receipts for any aftermarket parts or accessories that have been installed on the car. Any tire warranties, etc. are in affect and are transferrable to the new owner.

If you have any additional questions that I have not covered here, please ask. I would be happy to take additional photos of any area of the car, just let me know. This LS400 is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, and should easily last another 200-300,000 miles. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere, it really is a great car that is actually quite amazing considering it is almost 26 years old.

The car is being sold as-is, without any warranty. For buyers who are not local to the Denver area, I can assist the buyer with shipping arrangements, although any cost for shipping is solely that of the buyer.

Asking $3600 for the car, and will entertain all reasonable offers.
