I got bored today and was looking through the thread...and noticed that the prototypes don't have the scoops by the rear windows so I took a pic and edited them out. Pretty slick lookin I think!

So the scoops aren't functional after all? I think they look cool, but if they aren't functional then yeah just leave them out. I like the looks either way. Thanks for the PS BTW.

I haven't seen any new prototypes without the rear scoops.

Nice edit, because of 2 years of LF-A (I), the scoops are controversial to me because they obscure the view of the whole windows.

I haven't seen any prototypes WITH the side scoops. They seem to have just sort of showed up on the LF-A II if you ask me.

And I was also thinking about it today, and I think that $120K might be a bit low for the price of this car. Think about the fact that Lexus is about to unleash an entire line of "F" cars, and an SC-F/LS-F could probably be right around or even over $100K. The LS 600hL is now officially priced at $104,000 and loaded it's probably going to be around $115K. Just another $5k for the halo Lexus model seems a bit low.

If the SC is like other Lexus models lately, it's probably going to take a good $5K-10K hike in price, and consider a possible SC 600h, and SC-F above that. I think that pricing the upper line SC models too closely to the LF-A/GT-F would be a bad move.

My bet is that we're going to see:

SC 460: ~$70,000 base price
SC 600h: ~ $80,000 base price
SC-F: ~$93,000 base price
"Loaded SC-F" $100,000

LS460L: $71,000
LS 600hL: $104,000
LS-F: $110,000
"Loaded" LS-F $120,000

GT-F: from $140,000

^^^
Very good points, MPLexus301.

I think that is a plausible scenario. From the brand positioning angle, the GT-F needs to have a 'price cushion' between it and the LS 600h L (and one heckuva well-appointed features, top-tech list).

Also all of these new products (LS, GT-F, F-line) creates some interesting definitions for the new SC to play with. I really, really want to see a new SC that combines the long, sleek and 2+2 real capacity of the original, with the opulence of the 430 (and drop top?), and L-finesse...

However. it will be very interesting to see whether it gets cues from the GT-F or something else...was it ever confirmed that those spyshots of the LF-A spyder were real or not?

Yes they are functional. They are there to help cool the midship power.

The engine is front mid mounted. The radiators however, are in the back, and thats what the scoops are there for, to provide them with air, and ALL of the prototypes have have them, Its just pretty hard to see under the camo.

Exactly. Also let's not forget the transmission is in the back.

I'm not that smart on engine related things but the purpose of a radiator is to cool the coolant for an engine, wouldn't the coolant have to be routed to the front to give the engine coolant? That's quite a bit of piping if you asked me.

Realistically if they keep the rear radiators (most likely) they'll probably have to tone down the scoops near the rear quarter glass as the way we've seen them in the second concept they block off a lot of viewing space. Those scoops have been there since day one and if you look at older videos of it running the 'Ring, if you can find the comparison video of the concept LF-A versus the prototype they specifically point out the air scoops. It's all in Japanese but they circle it.

I agree with the pricing bit, I don't see this car going over 150k but I don't see it coming as close to 120k as everyone would like to see it.
Those guesses at pricing sound pretty good as they're competitive with the market. The M6 is just shy of 100k (base), the AMG SL is quite a bit off in pricing but AMG is always a lot more expensive than it's target competition. Lexus will most likely undercut BMW's M pricing by just a bit (3-5k) just so they have an edge.
