According to this Japanese video, the latest rumour is that the V10 is a 5L unit making roughly 520HP @ 8000 RPM. I'm skeptical of this just because the LFA-II concept shows a 9K RPM redline. Also, based on all the spy videos so far it sounds like the engine revs well beyond 8000 RPM.

9000 isnt such a fetch; it just states its max power at 8000rpms; I'd bet the powerband would be plenty wide to rev higher.

As for the debate on manual transmission, a sequential will always shift faster than you can. Ask Kimi or Micheal

p.s. its MR_F1 not mr.F1 ....
yet these idiots still crash their turbo + awd machines every day.

Rumours at this point, but one thing we can be certain of is the engine will make over 500HP and will rev to over 8000 RPM. High-revving enthusiasts rejoice .

If it does rev to 9K though, it will be one of the only production engines in the world to rev that high. That and it will have a killer sound

Notice I said virtually idiot proof. Make it idiot proof, and the world builds a better idiot. Go figure

I wonder what about the hybrid model? Will it mimic the LS and have that same engine? No way a sports car can have CVT, I just can't see that.

But both the GSh and LSh have virtual gears don't they? 6 and 8 respectively?

Good question. My guess is that the hybrid model, provided it's coming, would have a similar setup to the Supra HV-R. I'm not sure what sort of transmission was used in that car though. Toyota in general is secretive about the HV-R's full specs.

Default Apparent spy photo, Lexus LF-1

Snapped this photo from page 24 of the January 2008 Motor Trend magazine while at the dentist office the other day. It's an apparent spyshot of the upcoming Lexus LF-1, although according to the picture caption, there is some in-fighting about what the name will be for the car.

According to the picture caption, the new Lexus [LF-1] will have a V-10 and 500hp. It will likely be too expensive for me to afford presently; maybe a few years down the road.

I do hope they call it something other than LF-1, switching from LF-A to LF-1 seems a bit anticlimactic and doesn't match the Lexus lineup. I'm more in favor of GT 450 or GT-F.

how about rear view cameras mountded to the A pillars instead of those massive side mirrors ... or at the very least SMALLER side mirrors, those things totally detract from the lines of the car

I think something like SR-F or SR 500

By the time the LF-A finally shows up, its intended contenders would be developing 600+Hp and showcasing the latest fo fast gizmos and go light materials. The LF-A would then not have the kind of reception or recognition it would have if Toyota had brought it out in 2008.

When it does come out it will not even seem like a new car as it would already have been old news by then. That IMO is the greatest obstacle to this car becoming a success for Toyota.

Only thing is, if the LF-A III has some other unique features, etc. to distinguish itself from versions I and II...

Probably they will have to tone down some aspects over the concept, but perhaps by showcasing two different powertrains as rumored...or something different...

I totally agree with you. Lexus has always designated their cars with two letters followed by a three digit number such as:

IS 200
IS 220d
IS 250
IS 300
IS 350
ES 250
ES 300
ES 330
ES 350
GS 300
GS 350
GS 400
GS 430
GS 450h
GS 460
LS 400
LS 430
LS 460
LS 600h
SC 300
SC 400
SC 430
RX 300
RX 330
RX 350
RX 400h
GX 470
LX 450
LX 470
LX 570

Except for the the IS-F which is in a new category. This new Lexus exotic sports car will be in the F category so by following Lexus pattern the model designation should be two letters followed by an F. I agree with encore888 and I like GT-F. Nissan has the GT-R. The GT-F sounds fitting for Lexus...
