It's also a very good thing that Lexus made clear the "S" in IS stood for 'Sport'---while the "S" in ES/LS stands for "Sedan"....this opens up the possibilities, as the second letter doesn't have to be 'C' (SC/"IC"), "S" (LS/ES/etc), or "X" (RX/GX/LX).
SR-F, GT-F, SR 500, GT 450, LF 450...there are many possibilities. I think that F should not be used in the first two letters as that confuses with the "-F" classification. But the LF-A II reveal was called "LF-A F" which sounds too much like 'laugh' to me.

Rumours at this point, but one thing we can be certain of is the engine will make over 500HP and will rev to over 8000 RPM. High-revving enthusiasts rejoice 
.
If it does rev to 9K though, it will be one of the only production engines in the world to rev that high. That and it will have a killer sound

By the time the LF-A finally shows up, its intended contenders would be developing 600+Hp and showcasing the latest fo fast gizmos and go light materials. The LF-A would then not have the kind of reception or recognition it would have if Toyota had brought it out in 2008.
When it does come out it will not even seem like a new car as it would already have been old news by then. That IMO is the greatest obstacle to this car becoming a success for Toyota.

It depends on how late LF-A(or LF-1) is going to come out and how much it would cost. I don't think Lexus is going to sell this car for more than U.S.$120,000 then its target contenders are still within its performance range, and even the entry-level supercars like F430 and Gallardo are not having 600+ hp and these cars cost almost $200k. It should worry about GT-R more than anything because the Nissan is going to undercut the Lexus's price significantly while providing similar performance.

I really can not wait to see this new super car to head to head against its archrival: Nissan GT-R. If Honda NSX joins the game wow it would be fun. Mazda really should think of the new generation RX-7 if it doesn't want to left far far behind. A 380hp light weight RX-7 should do also. Whenever I think of the super race with these 400+ hp super cars I would drool....

The LF-A (MSRP) will be almost as much as the F430 (MSRP). That alone will ensure that some people will compare them. However, I agree with you completely in the sense that they aim to fulfill slightly different roles.

Well it is certainly an estimate and it will be until an official announcement; it was not my intention to suggest that it is definite. But every estimate I've read within the last year or so has been $170k+, including those citing industry insiders, and I wouldn't be surprised with such a price point.
