as far as the LS600h:
high priced executive saloons in the name of green transportation are more easily justified.
the jump from 106k to 150+, and i'm starting to see figures more like 180-200, is a big one my friend.

lexus certainly did a fine job building the hype for the car. i'd like to test it against the R8 V10, and hope it is priced as such if not cheaper.

That is subjective. Super-exotic super cars are also easily justified among the rich and car collectors. Lexus broke the most important psychological barrier, and that was the six figure barrier. The LS hybrid sells pretty well for a 6 figure car, so Lexus has now established that people are willing to pay 6 figures for a Lexus. Yes, the LF-A is a completely different car but that important psychological barrier has been broken.

Also Toyota has been very carefully and methodically building the hype for this car. Audience response for the LF-A at auto shows has been tremendous worldwide over the past few years. Prototype LF-As have now appeared at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race 2 years in a row. The LF-A II concept is also appearing in a new Need For Speed game, and there are strong rumors the LF-A will appear in Gran Turismo 5. Lastly, rumors say that Toyota might race the LF-A at Le Mans next year. Merely racing it at Le Mans, not to mention having a strong race finish would drive the hype even higher.

Several users here on CL have reported their local dealerships already have waiting lists of people who have put deposits down and want to be one of the first to own this car.

When you think about it using logic and common sense, it would be silly to conclude Lexus won't be able to sell this car. This car will not cost 400K as some media outlets have foolishly been reporting. I will bet anything on that.

Consistent rumors say the car will cost somewhere between 150-250K USD, and Toyota will take a loss on every LF-A sold.

It *might* cost 250K pounds in the UK, but even that I highly highly doubt. Regardless, the UK is a different market and you cannot compare UK prices directly to US prices after currency conversion.

Yeah anyhow the LS 600h/600hL around $100K sold some 6,000+ units in its first year. At say $250K and up, a number of say 500 LF-As is a fraction of that.

Exactly. If Lexus is able to sell thousands of LS hybrids worldwide at 100K+ annually, then it's not that big of a stretch for them to be able to sell 500 units worldwide of an exotic supercar at 150-250K.

speculation, but i'd say lexus will sell out 500 LF-A's before they're available at almost ANY price. i don't think anyone would seriously doubt that.

You make a good point. With all this speculation on whether people will be willing to pay a high price for the LF-A, I think there is a strong chance all LF-As will be sold out/pre-sold before the car even arrives in showrooms. That would be the real irony in this discussion.

Yes, it's supposed to be CF and leather, along with plastic and possibly (but unlikely) real metal.
