Some LFA info
#17
When I posted I was not aware of all the LFA threads in this forum....
so here are some more info....
one of the drivers in the Nurburgring race was Xavier Quiros- why was he involved with this project? Who is he?
Xavier is the good buddy of Akio- they were dorm mates! I think there is no stronger bond that can exist- you know messing around together, and all the other stuff.... coached him on English.... more important Xavier introduced Akio to motorsports!
Xavier and his brother Amadeo, are 2nd generation Toyota distributors in Costa Rica. They both race- Xavier is the more adventurous one. Akio actually worked for the Costa Rica distributors during summer and vacation breaks.
So Xavier is knowledgable about Toyota and racing- trusted by Akio.
So we have an "outsider" who loves Toyota, pretty much like many of us- but he can pick-up the phone and has the ear and attention of the Toyota President!
The LFA is in good hands.

It costs Bugatti $5 million quid to produce a Bugatti and yet it sells for $850k quid. It seems to me like Lexus is trying to do this, with the development costing several billion dollars, and perhaps more than a million dollars to produce the car, yet it will only cost a fraction of that. I still think that Lexus is aiming a bit too high for its first 'supercar.'
I am hoping it will be at least as impressive compared to other exotic/super cars as the Carrera GT and Mercedes Mclaren were when they came out several years ago, which means it will have to be a lot better than those old supercars ...

the vetting process on filling the LFA orders is quite interesting
seems that there are allocations for really high profile Lexus/Toyota owners
and the LFA is expected to be used and seen, showcased on the streets
there is even talk of "minimum" miles/km considerations
similar to marketing the flagship Toyota Century-
Toyota is looking out for "improper" associations,
the 2000GT suffered some initial market backlash...
interesting too that the RHD versions are late in being produced
the LFA had to be first homologated for international racing, hence LHD
this is probably the first Lexus/Toyota built in LFD before RHD !
the design of the rear spoiler is still being finalized and possibly more wheel options
exterior colors will be limited in the first year launch
final pricing will depend on how/when the YEN stabilizes
without deferential issues between markets
seems like there is quite a bit of attention to the diplomatic corps
(or trying to find the best place to purchase)
like the Maybach, you will have an assigned personal shopper
and ultimately an assigned technician !!

Toysport,
Thanks for the "insider" oriented info.
I was thinking about the wheel aspect earlier today and do hope they offer something else (non BBS).
The ones they use of the ISF were like $1600 or more per wheel if I remember correctly.
I would think Enkei could offer something just as good for much less.
Regarding the usage point for the car, from my interactions with Lexus since I put my name in the hat, I agree that they are very interested in how the car will be used.
