I really hope Lexus will pony up and ship a production-spec LFA to Germany and get Kinosheita (LFA 24-hours racer) to do a Nurburgring lap with everything production while having press there as well.

Maybe this is why there are NO OFFICIAL ring times from Lexus..

I kept saying that these tires are just placeholders. People really have to think, is the LFA going to let other cars run on Super performance tires and not it's LFA? I don't think so.

interesting on the tires. but then my question is, what is the tires that have been on the lfa right now? it has no markings, doesn't say potenza or anything except that they are bridgestone. talking to lexus people they say the tires are specially designed for the lfa by bridgestone, not anything generic or remotely available in the market right now.

so with that said, what are on the lfa now? if they aren't s001 (or variant of it) and not everyday potenza, then i tend to think it's the special tires that bridgestone develops for the lfa. are they trying to say the tires right now are crappy high performance tires until they have the max performance street tires ready?

Aren't current tires on pre-production LFAs simply prototype tires? They are custom-designed for the LFA yes, but I think these are tires not meant for production. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

from my understanding and also what i was told, yes the tires are custom designed, and they will be the production tires together with the lfa.

So does that mean then that the tires on the pre-production LFAs are production-spec, and the production LFAs will have the exact same tires, or slightly different spec/compound?

In other words, is Bridgestone continuing to develop these tires for the production LFA, or has development finished and the tires are ready, just waiting for the production car?

I don't think the tires currently on the LFA are the production spec. I doubt they are. Like what was said earlier, the LFA tires are S001 Bridgestone's now. They don't say Potenza on them. But they aren't the final tires for the LFA. Gengar's post said this.

Yeah, I was confused, but reading comparisons with the demo LFA in europe, like AutoBild and such, you see the tires used on the LFA are S001 Bridgestones. So taking what Gengar said about the LFA NOT using them as the final tire, obviously the LFA's out now aren't using it's final tires.

Rominl, TRDFantasy & TF109B,

I am not sure if you missed my post a few posts back...

But the latest Yellow LFA we received in here (USA) in August has tires that are clearly marked..

"Bridgestone Potenza S001"

Manufactured last week of June (2610) and installed on the LFA pretty quickly..
(These might just be built to LFA Specifications.)

See picture below...

(you can even see the different part #'s on americastire.com)

Usually you get what it comes with on the F, but for the LFA I am not sure if their will be a tire choice between brands...

Reason why I say this, is manily because we haven't seen a different tire on one yet......

Example: these S0001 tires were manufactured approx the last week in June 2010 and were installed on that LFA pretty quickly.

umm, does that mean they have 2 tires for the car already? on the first matte black (then white) lfa, the tires had zero markings on them, definitely no potenza s001 marking. what were those tires then? my initial thought was bridgestone were still doing r&d thus no markings of any kind on the tires, and later on designated them as s001. but with gengar's and joe's posts, that means they are going to have 2 choices?

here you go

it says bridgestone, size, and a serial number, and nothing more. this is the tire that from the info i get, is specially designed for lfa.

so my question is the yellow lfa, it has s001 on them, and the car is pretty recent (aug). so that means a few possibilities.

lexus randomly mounted the s001 for whatever reasons (likely or not likely?)
the tires eventually designated as s001 (contradict to what gengar said)
final "secret" tires still being developed and they don't want to use that on test car (maybe)
there will be 2 tires available, s001 and the special lfa tires

Henry,

Here is WHY those tires had NO markings, from the Black then White 2009 LFA which arrived here exactly 1 year ago this week.

The Bridgestone Potenza S001 tires were Offically launched on 02/24/2010

That tire on the LFA was a preproduction Tire on a preproduction LFA

Besides the sidewalls, I am sure the thread patterns are a match from our two pictures.

Edit:

Here, I just confirmed the thread patterns on those "un marked" tires.. they "almost" 99% match the Potenza S001 pattern spot on..!! However, the center thread is cut down the middle, where its not on a common S001

LoL
