LFA's 0-60 was fast though, which makes the 1/4 mile results quite strange.

3.6 to 60mph was Lexus' claim w/o LC though. Seems to me they might be making different runs. Maybe they did the 0-60 a different run than the 1/4 mile. That's what it seems like.

That's the only thing that makes sense in my eyes. If they are doing different runs, then they got a bad launch on the 1/4 mile run.

Hardly.

LFA smoked most cars out in the 0-60 mph test and racked up speed extremely fast. However, it was not covering distance fast enough, which means it spun initially in 2nd gear somewhere. It has a 125 mph trap speed, yet only got 12.xx at the 1/4 mile, which means only one thing - Severe traction issues.

Even by the 1000 meter mark, if you look at the gaps between the cars, the difference between a car like 458 Italia, LFA and SLS AMG is less than 2 car lengths. That is what is called extremely close race.

I think it was different runs. They did one to 60 and had a good launch. They did a separate 1/4mile run and had a bad launch, which is the only explanation. No way it loses speed with that good of a 0-60 run.

Interesting. But, that still does not explain why SLS AMG get slower than expected 1/4 mile? LFA and SLS AMG both are similar in straight line. LFA wears the Potenza tires and SLS AMG has the Continental Contact tires.

That is what baffles me. Why was the 1/4 mile 12.xx with a trap speed of 125 mph and also 3.6 seconds 0 - 60?? I mean, 125 mph is a solid mid-11 trap speed. Anything between 115 - 120 mph is usually 12.xx.

The only one plausible explanation is that the surface was not conducive to great traction (must be the same old cracked runway with weeds growing that AutoCar always uses) and only the cars that had super sticky tires or AWD did well.

I have always questioned Lexus LFA's tires, but things like these make me question the tire choice even more.

Thanks, licksauce.

Once again great job on the scans. I have the North American edition of 'Dupont Registry' with the same cover page. However, the article in the magazine is completely different with a picture of white LFA going through a corkscrew turn. Looks like that edition is geared towards middle east.

Geez!!! Licksauce, you did once again.

This needs a full thread for itself.

Is that a production LFA?? It is insanely fast!!!

That is launch control demonstration of Lexus LFA. LFA pulls insanely hard once over 70 mph. Wonderful video!!!

Lexus LFA sold in UAE by invitation only

Al-Futtaim Motors, the exclusive distributor for Lexus in the UAE, has announced that the Lexus LFA supercar will be displayed in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from the 9th to the 19th of February this year. The “most powerful road-legal Lexus ever” is being put on show to give the poor masses a chance to see the LFA from a bit closer, but without touching, as the car will be sold by invitation only.

The Lexus LFA will be parked behind ropes at the entrance to Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace hotel on February 9th to the 12th, then at the Lexus showroom at Dubai’s Festival City on February 13th to the 15th, then at Dubai Mall from February 16th to the 19th.

Production of the LFA is limited to 500 units worldwide and purchase is by invitation only, and its purpose is to serve as the flagship ‘halo’ model for Lexus, so that it’s personality can somehow influence consumers to take a closer look at other Lexus models. Just look at what the Nissan GT-R did for the Altima, and the Honda NSX for the Civic, in terms of street cred.

The Lexus LFA has a 552 hp 4.8-litre V10 engine, good for a top speed of over 320 kph and a 0-100 kph time of 3.7 seconds. The body made of carbon-fibre and makes the car 100 kg lighter than an equivalent aluminium body.

Customers invited to buy the car can personalise the Lexus LFA in undefined ways, likely in terms of colour schemes inside and out. There are apparently enough customisable options to ensure no two identical models will exist in the UAE.
