Exactly who cares about this thread in general.

5 speed/6 speed/7 speed/8 speed, are we supposed to take any of this CHIT CHAT stuff seriously.

What's important is that you enjoy the M3!

Even if he was trying to 'downplay' anything, he did a pretty poor job handling it, don't try to look down on your competition, they're your peers, but not even knowing who your competition is is foolish, I wonder how he got up to his position by not scoping out what others are doing and trying to beat them. He can stay in his little bubble for all I care, the rest will just speed by him in a few years, and when that happens he might be out of a job

It's not ignorance, it's merely his opinion. While he does speak for Mercedes, he's the head of their performance division. It's not his job to be flowery toward the competition.

1) He drove the IS-F.
2) He mentions that he does pay attention to the competition - RS6, M5, XF-R
2a) The fact that he mentioned the RS6 is important enough because guess who is soon about to overtake Mercedes as the 2nd best selling Luxury marque in the world? Audi.
3) He's being completely blunt. In Europe, Lexus and Cadillac are nowhere close to achieving the mindshare that any of the aforementioned luxury marques possess. Lexus is really just an American fascination, and a few other small markets I'd assume.
4) This interview is not proof that Mercedes is ignoring its competitors or resting on its laurels. Their past few launches/redesigns have been excellent in their class (GLK excluded, but it's selling well so heh.), so let's not be so hasty as to judge an entire company based on a brief interview with their head of their performance division.

Don't think many of us are hasty judging an entire company based on the empty words of one exec that might be gone tomorrow anyway.

Give him credit for one thing, he got a lot of buzz from that interview, it got all of you guy's attention. After all, that is what he was really after. I think its a better interview than the ones with those Japanese CEOs that puts you to sleep.

1. Surely if a LEXUS exec had these comments, people saying "its no big deal" would be having a party.
2. No one is condemning AMG at all, how can anyone come to that conclusion? Personally I prefer AMG far over M or RS or F or V.
3. There is no buzz as I haven't seen the article posted anywhere else.
