TOP GEAR hits the track with the LFA and the stig behind the(NO SPOILERS PLEASE wheel
The Stig's just taken the Lexus LFA for a spin 'round the Top Gear track. No word yet on official times, but anyone in the studio audience want to let us know whether it's faster than the Gumpert Apollo? UPDATE!
Lexus UK PR now claims: "The Lexus LFA might (I did not say is) be slower around Top Gear test track than the R500, but the driver will be dry :-)"
So it might be slower than the Caterham Seven R500's 1:17.9 around the test track? If the LFA actually is slower than that, it just means it's not in the top five. [@LexusPR]

The Gumpert weighs 1000 pounds less than and LFA, has more power, and can't possibly handle too much worse, so I don't like the Lexus' chances.
But man...that Zonda interior beats them both. It's like steampunk in there... Edited by bmoreDLJ at 12/09/09 4:11 PM

I think it will tie the Holden Maloo.
Actually, I just wanted an excuse to say Maloo.

If I had Simon Cowell money I'd drop 400K on the LFA without a second of hesitation and I wouldn't even care if it wasn't faster than a 911 Turbo around the TG track. Somehow it just does it for me, like the Camry wagon with two rear wipers. Edited by Number_Six at 12/09/09 2:29 PM

Not faster than the Apollo.
Not faster than several cars.
Still pretty damn fast... Sensei Hikaru

@Sensei Hikaru: That is quite possible, but an even surer bet is that it's more reliable than the Scuderia.

My biggest problem with the Top Gear lap times is that they are done from a standing start. If they timed using a flying start the board would look much different and it would be a much better gauge of performance on a track since you don't stop and do a standing start every lap in a race... or at least I don't. @BigEngineSmallCar: Real world performance includes both starting and stopping. I think they should make each car stop short of a line to finish the lap. Penalties for missing the mark. that ain't the way to have fun, son promoted this comment that ain't the way to have fun, son

Including a full-stop before the finish line could make Gambon interesting, as there is a substantial lump in the greenery right there.

From http://twitter.com/LexusPR :
RT @Lexus_Europe: LFA waiting impatiently in the wet for The Stig. http://tweetphoto.com/6127303
@Andy_Francis The Lexus LFA might (I did not say is) be slower around Top Gear test track than the R500, but the driver will be dry
--
So is the run wet or dry? If it's wet (like the pic suggests) then why even mention the R500's dry time?

I bet you it will not be faster than a GTR on such a short track. The GTR has the advantage of AWD. The weight never seems to affect it abilities so the light weight of the LFA doesnt impress me

+1. Like I said before, I'm not expecting stellar performances. It probably will not beat the GTR, heck it probably won't even beat the Koenigsegg without the spoiler. I'm thinking it will be right between the Ascari KZ1 and Corvette ZR1.

You guys need a little more confidence in the LFA. My bet is it'll at least break into the Top 10, beating the Enzo and LP670-4 SV. That is, if the LFA gets a dry run; otherwise it should still beat the ZR1's wet time.
