From what I've gathered there won't be a LFA roadster but if there is a LFA II then a roadster and hybrid might come to light.

Sorry Dave

I definitely want to chase down the spyder question.

Today I put in my first $10K deposit at the dealership with the credit application stuff.

I now have two product specialists to speak with at Lexus. The second one is coordinating the track event here in May. He let me know today that they will be back in touch to set up the specification appointment soon.

It would be phenomenal if they made the LFA Spyder...I hope all those who don't get the LFA approval for purchase find some way of getting something amazing.

I spoke with one of my product specialists today and have the following updates.

No spyder. The chief engineer considered driveability and weight issues and rejected this version.

No hybrid. Too much of a weight increase.

Other FYI. The LFA has a conventional battery as the Li based ones are not considered ready for prime time.

No spyder or hybrid for this generation. Of course, if there ever was a next generation or a successor to the LFA, you never know. Toyota has the technology to make a lightweight hybrid using capacitors instead of batteries.

I was told today by my Lexus dealer that I can purchase one LFA from the 10 unit allocated for Canada. One thing that does not sound 100% right to me was a $13000 "special" freight charge. Has any one heard of it? I wonder if they are planning to bring the car by airplane or something like that.

I haven't heard of anything like that. Perhaps the dealer can you give more info? It's certainly possible the car could be brought by airplane.

There was a hub-bub about how Paul McCartney's LS 600h L was delivered by airplane, and that's a less expensive (lol) model than the LFA...

There is also some general LFA purchase (and other) discussion here:

I agree that something is fishy.

Just contact Lexus in Canada to see what is what.

for a $400k+ supercar that some people have to wait up to 2 years to receive their unit, they had better be delivered by airplane.

Yes, I was on the list. They told me on Mar 10 that I did not make the original selection. However, my dealer called yesterday and told me that one has just became available if I wanted it.

I believe the dealer is just passing along the info from Lexus Canada. So, I just wanted to see if any other LFA North American buyer is getting this Special freight charge.

Congratulations on the news!

I have 3 contacts at Lexus, the person who put together the allocation plan (I believe worldwide) and two local product specialists. I also have a local dealership contact. No one has mentioned a special delivery charge. It was not mentioned in the allocation letter I received.

$13K Canadian does not seem out of bounds if we are talking about air freight if this is true. It just does not make sense based on what I have seen.

I would still call Lexus directly to see what is up.

Also, what is the price of the car in Canadian dollars?

MSRP is CAD 405500. I guess it was based on older exchange rate + 6% import tax for car made outside of NA. We worked out the final number of roughly CAD 470K, including some hefty gas taxes.
