Default SportAuto: LFA Nurburgring track test

LFA's Nurburgring laptime is: 7:38

Hockenheim laptime: 1:11.0

Putting things into context, this is how it looks like with the same driver and same track (Horst Von Saurma). There are no so-called manufacturer's claim here since it is not a comparison:

Porsche Carrera GT: 7:33
Lexus LFA: 7:38
Corvette ZR-1: 7:38
Ferrari 458 Italia: 7:38
Nissan GTR: 7:38
SLS AMG: 7:40
Ferrari F430 Scuderia: 7:40
Porsche Turbo 997.2: 7:38
Porsche GT3 997.2: 7:40
Lamborghini LP670-4 Super veloce: 7:42
Corvette Z06 C6: 7:43
Maclaren Mercedes SLR: 7:42
Ferrari F430: 7:55
Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera (530 HP track lightweiht version): 7:47

Are these numbers accurate? I didnt know a porsche 997 TT was faster than a F430 around the track.

The quoted Turbo's 7:30 Nür time was done by Porsche, not Sport Auto, and I would never trust factory timing even with "evidence" like a video because the setup is unknown.

That said, a 997.2 Turbo should certainly be in the same ballpark as the F430 as far as track times, so I don't know why the result is surprising.

7:29 is the lap time done by a Nissan test driver after days of trying. The GT-R ran just 7:38 with SportAuto's Horst Von Saurma at the helm as mentioned in the first post.

Since manufacturer's test drivers spend huge amounts of time testing their cars as their job, they are naturally a lot more familiar with the dynamics of the cars and can therefore extract the cars' full potential better than anyone else, including those magazine test drivers, who likely have only a few laps of practice before having to start their timed laps. The manufacturers also have the luxury of trying for better lap times days after days until they get what they think is the absolute best. The magazines usually do just one and only one timed lap for each car they test. The advantage of a manufacturer is clear.

Unfortunately, Lexus have so far refused/resisted officially publishing the best LFA lap times done by their test drivers so all we have here are the lap times from SportAuto and AutoBild, and in the case of AutoBild's test, the LFA ran 7:38.85, nearly 5 seconds faster than the GT-R's 7:43.65.

Because you are lacking some fact-finding and research??? All things equal, common sense should tell that LFA should be in a completely different league given it has advantage in just about everything.

That has no relevance whatsoever since it was a manufacturer's claim that never ever in real world was ever replicated on any production model whatsoever.

I put another thread just below of a head-to-head track test.

Autobild did a head-to-head supercomparo with multiple cars around Nurburgring (longer version 20.8 km full track) including GTR and LFA.

The Nissan GTR with a huge advantage of semi-slick tires (Dunlop S600 DSST) was still 5 seconds slower around Nurburgring than the LFA on street Bridgestone S001 street tires, same driver and same track. If LFA had been wearing semi-slick tires, it would have been around 10 - 15 seconds.

(Again remember, this is the full Nurburgring track, which is 20.8 KM rather than the typical 20.6 km version so there is 6 - 8 seconds time added for the extra 0.2 KM)
