I said petrol non-diesel for those who don't relate petrol to regular gas, there are lurkers in these forums who aren't 'gas junkies'. There may well be a GT1 version of the LFA. WEC is to be introduced, which would combine classes of GT3 GTE and GT1 into a GT world championship, with those cars allowed to compete in LeMans. Basically a single GT class, which the LFA would be in. So it looks like that will happen if this autosport story is true.

I forget where I saw this, but it was either a post from someone related to Gazoo, or simply a calculation done by someone that the 2010 LFA VLN car could do the "regular" 'Ring configuration in under 7:12. This led to some speculation of the production LFA being able to do the regular 'Ring in under 7:20. It seems like the 2011 LFA VLN car is a bit faster.

I think the Ring Edition LFAs will be benefiting from all the Gazoo racing. With the faster Gazoo LFAs, i think they will build some mean LFAs at the end of 2012. Too bad the regular LFAs are not 'too track focused'.

Well, the Nurburgring edition is making it's debut at Goodwood this year. Head over to that thread for the links I gave. The GTOne LeMans car will be there too. Wish I lived over the pond.

That's way faster than last year's car. In fact the best time was set earlier this year in one of the VLN races in qualifying, 8:25.xxx. That's damn fast. This year the weather might play into the LFA's hands, in wet weather last year's car was in the top 5 during practice with a slower car. They might be the dark horse in this race.

In the recent hot lap video from VLN 5, the #111 car took ~1:33 in traffic to do the GP section of the VLN layout (I measured between the junctions where the GP track meets the Nordschleife). If the 8:29 time above is used, then subtracting results in ~6:56. The time it takes to do the section of the Nordschleife not included in the VLN layout (i.e., between the junctions) would then need to be added (plus perhaps some consideration for the need for braking at entry or acceleration at exit in the VLN configuration). The distance is only about 500 feet and most nordschleife-only videos show cars taking 5-6 seconds for that distance. So based on the 8:29, a 7:12 or quite below that on the Nordschleife alone is certainly believable.

^ It's cool they're getting Andre Lotterer to drive. He just won the Le Mans 24 overall in the Audi TDI #2 (the only one that didn't crash spectacularly) a few weeks ago.

I think he was on the team to drive one of the 2 Gazoo LFAs last year. He crashed one during qualifying.

He's also a SuperGT champion with Lexus in '06 and '09 in the SC430.

edit- I see the stats for the drivers are already there, but it confirms that Lotterer is basically a Toyota driver.

I don't think the regular LFAs need to be that track focused. Even so, the regular LFA is a track monster as it stands. Making it further track focused would reduce comfort and ride on regular roads. I think that's what the 'Ring Edition LFA is for .

Wow that is fast! Also the engine bay is quite stunning with all the increased use of carbon fiber in there!
