Quote: "Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has set a new lap record for an electric vehicle (EV) at the legendary 20.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany."

EDIT: On the other hand, can you tell from the video whether it was a 20.6km or a 20.8km lap that the Toyota EV ran (I can't tell)? The "20.8km" wording in the PR may just be used to describe the track, not the lap, after all.

So it's official... it's the full 20.8km version of the track that was used!

^^ wow, even when the LFA makes a record lap time like this on the ring, they still have the ***** to call it a 'plain vanilla LFA'.

I guess the first mod for regular LFA should be a set of tires. I hope they put some of these new learning into subsequent production LFAs, and have one of these cars run a timed lap at the Ring.

20.8km, not the shorter variation like others have done. Toyota didn't take 'shortcuts' for this run. If they used the shorter variation like others do, the time would best the Gumbert Apollo, and be safely called the fastest street legal car around the Ring.

No it is confirmed to be the 20.6 KM shorter 'SportAuto' lap (just like what Chris Harris' had said). It is not the full 20.8 km long configuration of the track.

Well, there it is: 7:14.64, a big no muss, no fuss throw-down from Toyota and complete vindication for everyone associated with the LFA. You just know Naruse is smiling wherever he is. This is a seminal accomplishment, truly amazing.

Not that it matters much, it'd add 2 seconds to the time, which would still be faster than any production car bar the Gumbert. There's more to be had from it surely. It almost seemed effortless compared to other cars. What really impresses me is the tires it used, lol. Who needs R Compounds, get an LFA Nurburgring Edition and break records. Imagine some RE55's on this thing!

Notice there's no cage in these pictures. I love how the carbon fiber weave lines up on the doors.

Cage & Harnesses are supposedly optional...
